Two years ago, the Texas Rangers entered the 2024 as the defending champions. This year, the franchise is looking at a make-or-break season for their roster. Who says baseball moves too slow?
The Rangers hung on in the playoff race until the bitter end thanks to their dominant pitching staff. Can they repeat the performance? And if not, can their offense step up to the plate after a mediocre 2025?

How did the Texas Rangers Perform in 2025?
The Texas Rangers had a better 2025 than the previous one. They were in contention for the AL West up until the final few weeks of the season, but they ultimately missed the playoffs for the second straight year.
For the Rangers, it’s not an issue of talent. The building blocks of their 2023 World Series winning roster are still there, and Texas fielded the best pitching staff in baseball by ERA in 2025.
Jacob deGrom started 30 games and posted a 2.97 ERA. Jack Leiter posted a 3.86 ERA in 29 starts and Nathan Eovaldi recorded a 1.73 ERA in 22 starts.
The pitching was not enough to make up for a disappointing offensive season across the board. Texas finished below league average in hits and runs scored. Corey Seager was limited to 122 games. Marcus Semien batted just .230 with 15 home runs. Not a single player offensively tallied more than 80 RBIs or 23 home runs.
The big questions for the Rangers heading into the season: First, can the pitching be just as elite? And second, can their offense step up to the plate?
Texas Rangers 2026 Schedule
The early season for the Texas Rangers is loaded with teams looking to rebound from a letdown 2025. And then there’s the two-time defending champion Dodgers. The fate of the Rangers season and the roster as it stands now will be determined in the first half. A hot start is nearly required.
Here’s a look at the team’s first month of the 2026 season. Games without national broadcasters are typically available through a team’s RSN or local streaming channel.
If you can’t make it out to the ballpark, there are plenty of ways to catch every game on the Texas Rangers schedule on DIRECTV. Below are a few places where you can watch the Rangers’ baseball games.
In a competitive division like the AL, the Rangers need everything out of their stars. Corey Seagar and Jacob deGrom need to be healthy for most of the year for them to have a shot at the playoffs.
Maybe Brandon Nimmo, who they just traded Semien for, can carry some offensive power. Maybe a full season out of Evan Carter can make them a top 15 offense. But it’s hard to imagine a successful year for the team without a good year out of Seagar and deGrom.
The pitching staff as a whole needs to be just as elite as they were a year ago, which means another full year out of deGrom, a bounce-back season for the newly acquired MacKenzie Gore, another step forward for Jack Leiter and another elite year for Nathan Eovaldi.
When it comes to prospects, keep an eye on power-hitting shortstop/third baseman Sebastian Walcott, ranked No. 7 on MLB’s Top 100 Prospects list. He could see time with the major league club if Corey Seager suffers an injury or if the Rangers are looking to inject some power into the lineup.
TEXAS RANGERS KEY GAMES
The Rangers are once again going to find themselves in one of the most competitive divisions in baseball. The Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners will remain perennial competitors and even the Athletics boasted some serious firepower in the second half of the season. Not a remote possibility for them to jump a Texas team that gets off to a poor start.
Critical April Stretch
The key games for Texas start in April:
April 6-8: Host the Seattle Mariners
April 13-16: Travel to face the Oakland Athletics
April 17-19: Travel to Seattle
April 24-26: Another division series against the Oakland Athletics
May: The Astros Gauntlet
They get a divisional reprieve through the first few weeks of May before facing the Houston Astros seven times:
May 16-18: Travel to Houston for a 3-game set
May 25-28: Host Houston for 4 games
