Byron Buxton put together a career year. Rookie Luke Keaschall only played 49 games, but he looks like a future star. Joe Ryan, Pablo López and Simeon Woods Richardson had solid years on the mound. But ultimately, the Twins finished fourth in the AL Central and 27th out of 30 in the league.

Beyond Buxton’s All-Star season, Joe Ryan posted a career best ERA and innings pitched as he was named to his first All-Star team. The Twins caught glimpses of a Luke Keaschall who batted .302 with 14 doubles and 14 steals in 49 games. Ty France won a Gold Glove at first base. Simeon Woods Richardson took a step forward on the mound in his second full season.

The Minnesota Twins season starts with two teams just as hungry for a playoff spot. Baltimore is coming off of a disappointing 2025 campaign, and the Royals are looking to prove they belong among the AL Central favorites.
They have 17 games against playoff teams in the first six weeks of the season. If Minnesota is going to turn their fortunes around this season, it’s going to start from game one.

Top Twins Players to Watch in 2026
Minnesota’s quest for a playoff spot starts with their established stars, but the team’s success will depend on contributions across the roster and keeping key players healthy.
Byron Buxton finally had the full season that fans had been waiting for and delivered with a career year, hitting 35 home runs and stealing 24 bases while winning a Silver Slugger award.
Joe Ryan once again was the team’s ace. He was named to his first All-Star game last season, finishing 13-10 with a 3.42 ERA. For Minnesota to get over the hump, they need contributions outside their two stars.
If Luke Kershal, who impressed as a rookie, can be a consistent offensive force throughout the entire season, that would change the game for this team. Royce Lewis, who has been incredibly productive when healthy, was limited to just 106 games last year. Pablo López posted a 2.74 ERA, but he was only able to appear in 14 games.
If their stars can stay healthy, they can at least keep the Twins in playoff contention. But then it will rely on players like Kody Clemens, Ty France, Simeon Woods Richardson and Zebby Matthews to all take steps forward.
As far as prospects, the Twins have a trio of MLB Pipeline top 100 prospects in center fielder Walter Jenkins, infielder Kalen Culpepper and outfielder Emmanuel Rodriguez. All three could see playing time this season if Minnesota either needs a burst or finds themselves out of playoff contention by the deadline.

The American League Central is one of the league’s most competitive divisions, with the Guardians and Tigers battling for the division crown all the way to the very end and the Royals having the young talent capable of having a breakout season at any moment.
For the Twins, they need to start hot as they face a slew of divisional opponents, playoff teams from last season, and teams just as hungry for a playoff spot.
