It’s been a tough stretch for the Angels. They’ve missed the playoffs in 12 straight seasons, and they’ve posted a losing record in the last 11.
But in 2025, they jumped out to an impressive 36-38 record to start the season. They had an eight-game winning streak in May, including a three-game sweep of the Dodgers on the road. But soon after the All-Star break, the Angels fell back down to earth. For the rest of the 2025 season, the team went 36-52. To add injury to insult, legendary manager Ron Washington was sidelined mid-season to undergo bypass surgery and in essence was forced to retire early. Washington was in just his second season with LA.
Heading into 2026, the Angels start a new chapter with new manager Kurt Suzuki, a former player for the team who inherits a team that is at an organizational crossroads. The Angels have an uphill battle in their own division. The 2026 season is about seeing if they can see some of their young stars take the next step.
The Angels share a division with some of the American League’s best and rivalries with teams along the Golden State. Here’s how you can catch every single game.

How Did the Los Angeles Angels Do in 2025?
In heartbreaking fashion, the Angels’ hot start to 2025 cooled just as manager Ron Washington underwent a successful bypass surgery that would force him to miss the rest of the season. Washington was in his second season with the team, and the legendary manager was brought in to help bridge an uncertain point in the franchise’s history. It was a sad end to his tenure, as Washington is one of the most beloved figures in the game.
On the diamond, Zach Neto was the Angels’ stand out in 2025. He hit 26 home runs and stole 26 bases. Injuries prevented him from attaining a 30-30 season.
Mike Trout played in 130 games, which is the most he’s played in one season since 2019. It’s still sad to see him languish on a team without playoff aspirations.
Jo Adell hit 37 home runs with 98 runs batted in, improving his batting average, on-base percentage and slugging in just his second full season. Taylor Ward led the team with 103 RBIs to go along with 36 home runs and a team-high 31 doubles.
On the mound, Yusei Kikuchi and José Soriano won 10 games. Soriano led the league in least amount of home runs per 9 innings. Kikuchi put together an All-Star first half.
Overall, the Angels finished among the bottom of the league in most hitting categories and most of the important pitching ones too. With largely a returning roster minus Taylor Ward’s 36 home runs, the Angels will need much more out of Neto and young players like Nolan Schanuel in order to have a chance as the rest of the AL West flies by them.

Top Los Angeles Angels Players in 2026
Here are some of the best Los Angeles Angels players for the 2026 season.
Zach Neto, Shortstop
In just his second full year in the majors, Neto was set to race past what he accomplished during his rookie season but ended up missing over 30 games due to injury. Still, he racked up 26 home runs, 26 stolen bases and 29 doubles. With a full season of health, Neto could quietly emerge as one of the American League’s premier shortstops.
Mike Trout, Outfield
So long as he is playing, Trout remains a player to watch. Trout played more games in 2025 than he’s played since 2019, which is a win in itself. He hit 26 home runs and posted a respectable .798 OPS. It’s not the type of season we’re used to seeing from Trout earlier in his career, but it’s good to know he can still perform when healthy. Hopefully this makes it two years in a row.
Jo Adell, Outfield
After bouncing between the majors and minors, Adell, in just his second full season in the majors, belted 37 home runs and collected 98 RBIs. In spring training, he has worked on developing his swing, since he struggled with contact outside of homers and drew fewer walks while playing 20 more games than he did a year ago. Adell has big league power. The question for him will be: Can he develop a big-league eye at the plate and become a more well-rounded presence?
Nolan Schanuel, First Base
Schanuel missed 30 games in his second full season in the majors but was making improvements across the board as a hitter. He is one of the young players the Angels will need to break out to have a chance in 2026.
Grayson Rodriguez, Starting Pitcher
Rodriguez missed the 2025 season due to injury, but in 20 games in 2024 with Baltimore he went 13-4 with a 3.86 ERA, 130 strikeouts and 116 innings. Still just 26, Rodriguez gives the Angels a potential ace if he can regain his form.
Alek Manoah, Starting Pitcher
Manoah is another Angel that didn’t pitch in 2025. He went 9-2 as a rookie and was an All Star in 2022, but he’s failed to regain that form with time in the minors and now injury. Now with a completely fresh start, it’ll be interesting to watch if the right-hander can get back to Cy Young-caliber form and give the Angels a fighting chance.
Reid Detmers, Starting Pitcher
Detmers will be moving to the starting rotation after serving as a reliever a year ago. He appeared in 61 games, going 5-3 with a 3.96 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 63 innings. In a year with no expectations, the Angels can see what they have in the left-hander.
Los Angeles Angels Rivalries
The Los Angeles Angels have multiple heated rivalries, especially with the Dodgers, Athletics and Rangers.
The Freeway Series: Los Angeles Angels vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Angels and the Dodgers have shared the Southern California area for decades, which naturally forms a regional rivalry. On paper, this is the kind of matchup in 2026 that can be accurately described as one-sided, as the Dodgers field a totally stacked all-star team and the Angels most certainly do not.
That said, the Angels went 6-0 against the Dodgers last year. Can the Angels pull off a similar miracle this year?

Los Angeles Angels vs. Athletics
AL West rivals for years, the Angels and Athletics often get overlooked as teams in their own state, with the Angels being the underdog to the Dodgers and the Athletics the underdog to the Giants (though the Athletics will move to Las Vegas next season). Add in some divisional title stakes and you have some iconic matchups that determined pennants in the ’80s and ’90s.
These two teams won’t be the betting favorites for the World Series, but each feature some promising young players and each team has some surprises up its sleeves.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers
The Angels and Rangers have been quietly one of the most intense rivalries in the MLB, frequently battling for the AL West, especially through the early 2000s. These two teams saw each other when tensions were high, leading to heated arguments and fist fights.
This rivalry also has the fun fact of being the only two teams that have thrown perfect games against each other in MLB history.
