‘House of the Dragon’ episode 7 power rankings

This week, we head over to Driftmark and see what a Velaryon funeral is like. Also, we surprisingly wrap up the episode with a Targaryen wedding

See episodes onetwothree, four, five, and six power rankings before digging in.

1. Queen Alicent Hightower

Queen Alicent is finally allowing her true self be seen by everyone in public. Why? Because her son, Prince Aemond, gets his eye slashed during a fight with Princess Rhaenyra’s son, Prince Lucerys, and Queen Alicent decides that this is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Her immediate response to Aemond losing his eye for life is that she wants Lucerys’ eye to be removed as punishment. She quite literally wants an eye for an eye. However, her husband, King Viserys, refuses to punish Lucerys, and Queen Alicent takes matters into her own hands. She pulls a blade out and immediately goes to slash Princess Rhaenyra, who prevents the attack. As Princess Rhaenyra pushes the blade away, she tells Queen Alicent, “You’ve been hiding beneath the cloak of your own righteousness. But now, they see you as you are.” After her goading, Queen Alicent (non-fatally) cuts Princess Rhaenyra on the arm, and the stage is officially set for war. Queen Alicent is ready to go to battle against Princess Rhaenyra, and anyone who backs her, in order for the Queen’s eldest son, Prince Aegon, to sit on the Iron Throne.

2. Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen

Princess Rhaenyra isn’t messing around anymore. She knows that Ser Laenor won’t be able to help provide her with the support she needs to ascend to the Iron Throne. With Queen Alicent showing that she’s going to do whatever it takes for Prince Aegon to be the next King, Princess Rhaenyra needs a husband who will go to war for her and take down anyone in her path. That’s where Prince Daemon comes in. That’s right: Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon are going all-in on the Targaryen tradition of marrying within the family. After the initial wave of disgust, you start to remember that this is what many royal families did back in the day to keep the bloodline pure. That doesn’t make it any better, but just a reminder that this was an actual thing that happened with royal families.

3. Prince Daemon Targaryen

Only in the Game of Thrones universe can incest make you go up the power rankings. The love scene between Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon was unsettling. Their marriage doesn’t feel good either. But Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon are ready to fight against Queen Alicent and the Greens (i.e., the people who are backing Queen Alicent). Prince Daemon is the powerful warrior Princess Rhaenyra needs by her side.

4. Otto Hightower

He’s back, ladies and gentlemen! Otto Hightower is the Hand of the King after Lyonel Strong was killed in a fire. Finally, Queen Alicent has someone in her corner to support her as she prepares for a war with Princess Rhaenyra.

5. King Viserys

King Viserys just wants everyone to get along. Come on, can’t we all just get along and stop stabbing each other in the eye?

6. Prince Aemond

We know Prince Aegon is ahead of Prince Aemond on the Iron Throne succession list, but this week shows that Aemond has what it takes to stand up to Aegon’s bullying. A week after Aemond was made fun of because he doesn’t have a dragon, he goes out and claims Lady Laena’s dragon, Vhagar, for himself. Vhagar is one of the biggest dragons of all-time (seriously, according to Game of Throneslore).

7. Ser Larys Strong

He’s still a creep. Middlefinger (the fanbase’s nickname for Ser Larys) is just waiting for Queen Alicent to tell him to kill more people. All he wants is a little bit of power in return.

8. Prince Aegon

Prince Aegon makes a pretty solid save when his dad asks him who told him that Princess Rhaenyra’s kids are bastards. Instead of blaming it on his mom, Prince Aegon says that it’s clear they’re not Sera Laenor’s kids just by looking at them. Nice save, kid!

9. Ser Laenor Velaryon

Initially, we thought Ser Laenor was going to get killed. Luckily, Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon spare Ser Laenor’s life and send him off to a random place with his lover, Ser Qarl. This is about as happy of an ending as you can get when you’re royalty in the Seven Kingdoms.

10. Vhagar

Vhagar is an absolute beast. She’s the biggest dragon that we’ve seen on screen since Game of Throneswas released.
