 | DIRECTV is excited about the future of HD. The information here will help you determine whether you're properly set up to receive new HD channels as they become available. Even if you're enjoying DIRECTV's current HD lineup, you may need to make a few changes to receive future additions.
What You'll Need Make sure you have an HD-capable TV and an HD Access subscription. To be ready for the HD channels coming later this year to DIRECTV, you'll also need the following: - DIRECTV HD receiver model HR20 or H20
- 5-LNB satellite dish
- B-Band Converter module

 | To get all of the great HD channels coming to DIRECTV, you'll need the appropriate receiver either the HR20 or H20 model.* On the front of the receiver, look for a sticker inside the small door where the Access Card is located. You'll find the model number under the letters MDL or next to the word "Model."
If there is no door on the front of your receiver or if you do not have a receiver with the model number HR20 or H20, you can order one by clicking the button below.
*If you do not have an H20 or HR20 receiver, you will still be able to view your current HD channels but will be unable to view the new HD channels.

 | If your satellite dish was installed prior to October 2005, you do not have a 5-LNB dish. If you don't remember when your dish was installed or if you're simply not sure that it is a 5-LNB, take a look at your dish outside and see if it matches either one of the images to the right.
If you have an H20 or HR20 and do not have the 5-LNB dish, you can easily order a new dish for free and set up installation by calling 1-800-531-5000. Say "order new equipment" to be routed to the correct destination. | | |

 | The B-Band Converter (BBC) module, installed on your HR20 or H20 receiver, allows you to view the upcoming HD channels. Because DIRECTV's current HD channels do not require the BBC, it may not have been installed.
The easiest way to tell if your H20 or HR20 receiver has the BBC connected to it is to look at the back of the receiver. Look for a module that looks like the one pictured to the right.
If you can't access the back of your receiver and you have an HR20 receiver, tune in to the BBC test channel number 499. If you get a message that reads "Searching for signal on Satellite In," you'll be able to enjoy new HD channels from DIRECTV as they become available. If you see the message "Important HD Information. Your B-Band Converter module is NOT connected," you do not have the BBC or it is not connected properly.
For certain models of the H20 or HR20 receivers and/or previous generation satellite dishes or if you live in Alaska or Hawaii, you may see a gray or blank screen when you tune in to channel 499. In this case, DIRECTV will have to verify your equipment setup to determine if you need a BBC. Please call Customer Service at 1-800-531-5000.
If you do not have the BBC module or need instructions to install it, see the next section. |
