Editor’s Pick: Best New Movie to Stream This Week

‘Dead Man’s Wire’ – Netflix

Added: May 28 · Rating: R · Runtime: 1h 45m

Directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk), Dead Man’s Wire tells the unbelievable true story of Tony Kiritsis, an unhinged Indianapolis real estate developer who in February 1977 walked into a mortgage broker’s office, wired a sawed-off shotgun to his hostage’s neck, and held the city — and the nation — captive for 63 hours.

Why we picked it: This might just be one of the better true-crime thrillers in recent years. Skarsgård hasn’t been this good since It, and Van Sant reminds you why he’s one of the great American directors. It bombed at the box office in January, so most people haven’t seen it. We recommend you fix that this weekend.

New Movies Streaming This Weekend

These are the new movies coming to streaming this week. All titles will be available to watch across streaming platforms by May 30.

‘Wingman’ – Apple TV

Wingman_640x360.jpg

Platform: Apple TV · Added: May 26 · Rating: Unrated · Runtime: 1h 47m · Genre: Comedy · Director: Harland Williams · Cast: Harland Williams, Evan Marsh, Russell Peters, Jamie Kennedy, Kayla Wallace, Shiva Negar

After losing his fiancée to a wealthy rival, Bob (Evan Marsh) hires the self-proclaimed Wing Man Turk (Harland Williams) to help win her back. What follows is a series of escalating dating disasters and a rival wingman with his own agenda. Written and directed by Williams himself, Wingman is a proudly old-school raunchy comedy in the tradition of early Adam Sandler films.

Why watch it: If you grew up watching RocketMan or There’s Something About Mary, this is comfort food. It’s dumb, fun and knows exactly what it is.

‘Dead Man’s Wire’ – Netflix

Dead_Mans_Wire_640x360.jpg

Platform: Netflix · Added: May 28 · Rating: R · Runtime: 1h 45m · Genre: Crime / Drama / Thriller · Director: Gus Van Sant · Cast: Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, Colman Domingo, Myha’la, Cary Elwes, Al Pacino · RT: 91% critics / 76% audience

On February 8, 1977, furious Indianapolis real estate developer Tony Kiritsis (Bill Skarsgård) walked into a mortgage broker’s office, wired a gun to a hostage’s neck and held the city captive for 63 hours. What followed was a media spectacle that turned an unhinged man with a grievance into an unlikely phenomenon. Directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk), Dead Man’s Wire is a darkly funny, period-perfect recreation of one of the strangest true crime stories in American history.

Why watch it: Bill Skarsgård gives one of the most talked-about performances of the year — funny, volatile and deeply unsettling all at once. Critics have praised the film’s tense ‘70s atmosphere and dark humor, even when they’re divided on the movie itself. If you loved Dog Day Afternoon or I, Tonya, this strange true-crime story should absolutely be on your radar.

‘Miss You, Love You’ – HBO Max

Miss You, Love You Movie Poster.jpg

Platform: HBO Max · Added: May 29 · Runtime: 1h 38m · Genre: Drama · Director: Jim Rash · Cast: Allison Janney, Andrew Rannells, Bonnie Hunt, Suzy Nakamura, Oscar Nunez

Having to plan her husband’s funeral is already overwhelming for no-nonsense widow Diane Patterson (Allison Janney). Doing it alongside her estranged son’s assistant, Jamie Simms (Andrew Rannells), makes it even more complicated. As the two work through funeral arrangements together, buried tensions, family secrets and unexpected moments of humor begin to surface.

Why watch it: Early reactions praise the film’s balance of sharp humor and emotional honesty, with Allison Janney’s grounded performance being a major highlight. Viewers say it avoids becoming overly sentimental, instead finding warmth in uncomfortable family dynamics and messy grief.

‘The Moment’ – HBO Max

The_Moment_640x360.jpg

Platform: HBO Max · Added: May 29 · Rating: R · Runtime: 1h 43m · Genre: Comedy / Drama / Music · Director: Aidan Zamiri · Cast: Charli XCX, Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, Alexander Skarsgård, Rachel Sennott · RT: 67% critics / 75% audience

Charli XCX plays a fictionalized version of herself in this A24 mockumentary set during the peak of Brat Summer. As her arena tour debut looms and her label pushes her into brand deals she wants no part of, a high-profile documentary director (Alexander Skarsgård) is brought in to film the spectacle — and things quickly spiral.

Why watch it: If you were even slightly swept up in Brat Summer, this is essential viewing. Charli holds the whole thing together with a charisma that carries even the film’s messier moments, and Skarsgård is genuinely unhinged in the best way. Think This Is Spinal Tap meets the music industry of 2026.

‘Shelter’ – Starz

Shelter_640x360.jpg

Platform: Starz · Added: May 30 · Rating: R · Runtime: 1h 47m · Genre: Action / Thriller · Director: Ric Roman Waugh · Cast: Jason Statham, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Bill Nighy, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays · RT: 65% critics / 88% audience

Michael Mason (Jason Statham) is a former MI6 assassin living on a remote Scottish island — until a young girl (Bodhi Rae Breathnach) washes ashore during a storm and forces him back into the world he left behind. When his past catches up with him, Mason has to fight his way through it with the girl in tow. Bill Nighy and Naomi Ackie round out the cast of this lean, no-nonsense British action thriller.

Why watch it: Audiences love this one far more than critics did — 88% audience score versus 65% from reviewers — and it’s easy to see why. It’s exactly what it promises: Statham doing what Statham does best, with a surprisingly effective father-daughter dynamic giving it more heart than expected. Perfect movie night viewing.

Jack Ryan Ghost War.jpg

Platform: Prime Video · Added: May 20 · Rating: R · Runtime: 1h 45m · Genre: Action / Thriller · Director: Andrew Bernstein · Cast: John Krasinski, Wendell Pierce, Michael Kelly, Sienna Miller, Betty Gabriel · RT: 47% critics

Platform: HBO Max · Added: May 15 · Rating: R · Runtime: 1h 41m · Genre: Psychological Thriller · Director: Alex Russell · Cast: Théodore Pellerin, Archie Madekwe, Zack Fox, Havana Rose Liu, Sunny Suljic · RT: 95% critics / audience TBD

From the writer-producer of The Bear and Beef, Lurker follows an LA retail worker with dreams of something bigger who catches the eye of a rising pop star and is pulled into his inner circle — only for the lines between friendship, fandom and obsession to blur in increasingly dangerous ways.

Why watch it: One of the best-reviewed films of 2025. If Saltburn and Nightcrawler had a child raised on social media, it would look something like this. Pellerin’s performance alone is worth the watch.

Platform: Netflix · Added: May 14 · Rating: PG · Runtime: 1h 39m · Genre: Animated, Comedy, Adventure · Director: Tyree Dillihay · Cast: Caleb McLaughlin, Gabrielle Union, Aaron Pierre, Nicola Coughlan, David Harbour, Nick Kroll, Jennifer Hudson, Stephen Curry · RT: 85% critics / 93% audience

The animated sports adventure GOAT follows Will Harris, a scrappy young goat with big dreams who goes viral after challenging the league’s MVP to earn a spot on a struggling professional roarball team. His new teammates aren’t thrilled about it.

Why watch it: GOAT is a crowd-pleasing underdog sports comedy with the look and feel of the Spider-Verse films and a stellar voice cast to go with it.

‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’

Platform: Netflix · Added: May 8 · Rating: PG-13 · Genre: Drama · Runtime: 1h 51m · Director: Olivia Newman · Cast: Sally Field, Lewis Pullman, Alfred Molina, Colm Meaney, Joan Chen

Remarkably Bright Creatures.jpg

Sally Field stars in the Netflix adaptation of the bestselling novel Remarkably Bright Creatures as Tova, a widow working the night shift at a small-town aquarium who unexpectedly forms a bond with Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus voiced by Alfred Molina. At the same time, she connects with a soul-searching young man (Lewis Pullman), not knowing that both are looking for the same thing: family. Together, they uncover a mystery that changes all of their lives.

Why watch it: If you loved Where the Crawdads Sing or A Man Called Ove, this is your weekend pick — an emotionally layered mystery-drama with Sally Field at her best. Expect to ugly cry at least once.
