Players to Watch: San Francisco Giants vs. Kansas City Royals

San Francisco Giants

Luis Arraez — 2B. The Giants’ second baseman is hitting .323 this season, the kind of contact-driven average that sets the table at the top of San Francisco’s order. His .362 on-base percentage and .450 slugging mark show he’s doing more than just slapping singles into the gaps.

Rafael Devers — 1B. Devers has turned in 20 home runs and 53 RBIs from the middle of the lineup, making him the Giants’ primary power source. His .243 average trails Arraez’s .323 by a wide margin, but the RBI production keeps opposing pitchers honest.

Casey Schmitt — LF. Schmitt has quietly put together a .275 average with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs from the outfield, numbers that rival Devers’ power production from a different lineup spot. His .482 slugging percentage tops Arraez’s .450 mark, giving San Francisco a second legitimate power threat in the lineup.

Kansas City Royals

Jac Caglianone — RF. The rookie right fielder leads Kansas City with 16 home runs to go with 37 RBIs and a .260 average, giving the Royals a bat to build the lineup around. He’s emerged as the focal point of Kansas City’s power production this season.

Carter Jensen — C. Behind the plate, Jensen has driven in 51 runs while adding 13 home runs and a .242 average. His RBI total tops Caglianone’s 37, making the two of them Kansas City’s most productive run producers on the roster tonight.

Michael Massey — 2B. The second baseman is hitting .267 with 7 home runs and 33 RBIs, giving Kansas City a more contact-oriented presence than the power-first profiles of Caglianone and Jensen. His .306 on-base percentage and .425 slugging mark round out a complete offensive skill set at the position.
