Baltimore Orioles (63-68) at St. Louis Cardinals (66-66) — Game Preview

The Baltimore Orioles (63-68) visit the St. Louis Cardinals (66-66) at Busch Stadium on August 25, 2026, with both clubs already well out of the playoff picture and playing out the stretch. St. Louis carries the better team batting average at .241 against Baltimore’s .235, while the Orioles have hit more home runs as a team, 159 to 137, this season. Pete Alonso anchors the Baltimore lineup at first base, hitting .270 with 30 home runs and 85 RBIs, production that has kept the Orioles’ offense afloat even as the rest of the roster has faded.

Gunnar Henderson adds another power bat at shortstop, hitting .220 with 20 home runs and 51 RBIs this season. St. Louis counters with Alec Burleson, who is hitting .291 with 96 RBIs at first base, and Jordan Walker, who has added 27 home runs from right field to give the Cardinals a second power source alongside Burleson’s contact bat. Baltimore sits 15 games back in the AL East, while St. Louis trails by 15.5 games in the NL Central, a split that shows how far off the pace both teams have fallen this season.

Players to Watch: Baltimore Orioles vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Baltimore Orioles

Pete Alonso — 1B. Alonso anchors the Baltimore infield at first base, hitting .270 with 30 home runs and 85 RBIs as the Orioles’ primary power threat this season. His .360 on-base percentage pairs with a .500 slugging percentage, a combination that makes him one of the more complete hitters in Baltimore’s lineup.

Gunnar Henderson — SS. Twenty home runs and 51 RBIs from a shortstop is no small production, and that’s exactly what Henderson has delivered for Baltimore this season. His .220 average is modest, but the power numbers keep him in the middle of the Orioles’ order most nights.

Colton Cowser — CF. In center field, Cowser brings on-base skill to Baltimore’s lineup, posting a .314 on-base percentage against a .219 batting average, the profile of a hitter who works counts more than he drives the ball. His 12 home runs and 34 RBIs make him more of a complementary piece than a focal point, but the walks he draws give the Orioles’ order a different look than Alonso and Henderson provide up the middle.

St. Louis Cardinals

Alec Burleson — 1B. Burleson has been a steady bat for the Cardinals this season, hitting .291 with 96 RBIs and 21 home runs from first base. His .356 on-base percentage and .488 slugging percentage make him a presence in the middle of the St. Louis lineup that the Cardinals can lean on even in a season that hasn’t gone as planned.

Jordan Walker — RF. Walker has emerged as a genuine power threat in right field, hitting .289 with 27 home runs and 96 RBIs this season. His .347 on-base percentage and .507 slugging percentage give the Cardinals thump to pair with Burleson’s average in the middle of the lineup.

JJ Wetherholt — 2B. At second base, Wetherholt has provided a steady presence for St. Louis, hitting .244 with 17 home runs and 48 RBIs this season. His .347 on-base percentage matches Walker’s own mark, giving the Cardinals hitters who work counts as well as drive in runs.
