Seattle Mariners (26-29) at Athletics (27-27) — Game Preview

The Seattle Mariners visit Sutter Health Park at 26-29 to face an Athletics club sitting at 27-27. Emerson Hancock gets the start for Seattle with a 3-2 record, 3.07 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 60 strikeouts through 58.2 innings, giving the Mariners a steady profile on the mound. The Athletics counter with Gage Jump, turning the matchup into a test of whether Seattle can support Hancock against an Oakland lineup that has found production from the middle of the order.

On the Seattle side, Randy Arozarena anchors the lineup with a .299 average and .390 on-base percentage from left field, giving the Mariners a reliable bat near the top or middle of the order. Luke Raley adds power with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs from the right-field spot. The Athletics counter with Shea Langeliers, who is hitting .303 with 13 home runs, 28 RBIs and a .557 slugging mark, while Nick Kurtz has driven in a team-best 37 runs from first base. Seattle is also working around the absence of Cal Raleigh, who remains on the 10-day IL with a right oblique strain.

Players to Watch: Seattle Mariners vs. Athletics

Seattle Mariners

Randy Arozarena — LF. The veteran outfielder is hitting .299 with a .390 on-base percentage, the most consistent table-setter in the Seattle lineup. His .477 slugging mark adds enough thump to keep him in the middle of the order when matchups call for it.

Luke Raley — RF. Raley brings the power, with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs while hitting .270 on the season. He gives the Mariners a left-handed bat capable of changing the math of an at-bat against right-handed pitching.

Emerson Hancock — SP. Tonight’s starter takes the mound at 3-2 with a 3.07 ERA and 60 strikeouts through 58.2 innings. A 1.06 WHIP suggests he’s been one of the more efficient arms in the Seattle rotation.

Athletics

Shea Langeliers — C. The catcher is hitting .303 with 13 home runs and 28 RBIs, slugging .557 with a .373 on-base percentage. Production at that rate from behind the plate is rare, and he’s been the most dangerous bat in the home lineup most nights.

Nick Kurtz — 1B. Kurtz leads the Athletics with 37 RBIs, ahead of Langeliers at 28, while hitting .286 with 8 home runs from the first-base spot. He’s been the cleanup engine the Athletics needed.

Luis Severino — SP. Severino takes the ball at 2-5 with a 4.23 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 61.2 innings. The 1.44 WHIP says traffic on the bases has been the story, and tonight is a chance to reset against a Seattle lineup missing its starting catcher.
