Players to Watch at the 2026 Miami Open: Top ATP & WTA Stars to Follow

The 2026 Miami Open is set to feature some of the biggest names in tennis, with top ATP and WTA players arriving in Florida following an exciting Indian Wells tournament. From defending champions to rising stars, here are the top players to watch at the Miami Open 2026.

Men’s Players to Watch at the 2026 Miami Open (ATP)

Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner enters the 2026 Miami Open in peak form after winning his first Indian Wells title, defeating Daniil Medvedev 7-6, 7-6 in a tightly contested final. The 2024 Miami Open champion returns after missing last year’s event and will look to complete the Indian Wells–Miami Open double.

Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz entered Indian Wells as a favorite, having won the tournament twice, but he fell in the semifinals to Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6. Alcaraz won the Miami Open in 2022 but was bounced in the second round a year ago and will look to get back in the win column following Indian Wells.

Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev was defeated by eventual champion Jannik Sinner 6-2, 6-4 in the Indian Wells semifinals. Still searching for his first Miami Open title, Zverev has consistently made deep runs at this ATP Masters 1000 event.

Daniil Medvedev

Entering the tournament as the 11th-ranked player, Medvedev had a strong showing at Indian Wells, ultimately falling to Jannik Sinner in the final 7-6, 7-6. Though he fell short of expectations, the performance gives him momentum heading into Miami, a tournament he won in 2023.

Lorenzo Musetti

One of the sleepers heading into Indian Wells, Musetti was bounced in the second round and will look for a strong showing in Miami to maintain momentum following quarterfinal appearances at last year’s US Open and this year’s Australian Open.

Alex de Minaur

Alex de Minaur saw his streak of four straight quarterfinal appearances snapped with a third-round loss at Indian Wells. He has never advanced past the fourth round in Miami, making this a key opportunity to improve his record.

Felix Auger-Aliassime

Auger-Aliassime ended 2025 on a hot streak with quarterfinal appearances at the Cincinnati Open and Shanghai Masters, along with a finals appearance at the Paris Masters. However, 2026 hasn’t gotten off to a strong start. He lost in the first round at the Australian Open and the fourth round at Indian Wells. The 25-year-old will look to rebound in Miami, where he made a semifinal run in 2019.

Taylor Fritz

Fritz was surprisingly defeated in the third round of Indian Wells—a tournament that essentially serves as a home event for the California native—losing 6-4, 7-6. He could use a strong showing at the Miami Open to build momentum heading into the rest of the Grand Slam season. He was a semifinalist in last year’s tournament.

Ben Shelton

Shelton carried strong momentum into Indian Wells, having reached the quarterfinals at the Cincinnati Open, Paris Masters, and Australian Open to begin the 2026 season. However, he was bounced in the third round by fellow American Learner Tien, who won in three hard-fought sets. Shelton has tournament-winning potential but has only captured one title so far (Canadian Open). Miami offers another opportunity to showcase his upside.

Women’s Players to Watch at the 2026 Miami Open (WTA)

Aryna Sabalenka

Sabalenka is fresh off a victory at Indian Wells, where she defeated Elena Rybakina 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 in a thrilling final. Miami is her next stop, and she enters as the defending champion. This is one of Sabalenka’s strongest stretches of the season.

A year ago, she finished as runner-up at Indian Wells before winning the Miami Open and Madrid Open back-to-back, along with reaching the semifinals of the French Open. This year, she’s already improved on that result with her first Indian Wells title and another strong opportunity ahead.

Iga Świątek

Świątek has been a model of consistency, reaching the quarterfinals in each of her last four tournaments. At Indian Wells, she fell to Elina Svitolina 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. The 2022 Miami Open champion remains a top contender after also reaching the quarterfinals last year.

Elena Rybakina

Rybakina fell in three sets to Aryna Sabalenka in the Indian Wells final (3-6, 6-3, 7-6) and will look to bounce back after winning this year’s Australian Open. She made back-to-back Miami Open finals in 2023 and 2024 and is still chasing her first title at this event.

Coco Gauff

Gauff is in a difficult stretch, with an up-and-down 2026 season. After a quarterfinal finish at the Australian Open, she exited early in Qatar, reached the semifinals in Dubai, and then lost in the third round at Indian Wells. She’s still looking to recapture the form that led to her second Grand Slam title and has yet to advance beyond the fourth round in Miami.

Jessica Pegula

Pegula has been one of the hottest players on tour, with semifinal appearances at last year’s US Open and this year’s Australian Open, along with a title in Dubai. She reached the quarterfinals at Indian Wells, matching her career-best result there, and now heads to Miami, where she’s made multiple semifinal runs and reached the final last year. A win could push her near a career-high ranking.

Amanda Anisimova

Anisimova won both the Qatar Open and China Open last year in a breakout season and carried that momentum into a quarterfinal run at the Australian Open. At Indian Wells, she fell in the fourth round 6-4, 6-1. She also reached the fourth round in Miami last year, her best result at the tournament.

Mirra Andreeva

After a breakout 2025 season, Andreeva’s momentum has slowed. A fourth-round exit at the Australian Open was followed by a third-round loss in Qatar. She reached the quarterfinals in Dubai but was eliminated in the third round at Indian Wells, a tournament she won last year. She will now compete in just her second Miami Open after a third-round exit in 2025.

Jasmine Paolini

Paolini had one of the best stretches of her career toward the tail end of 2025, but it all started with a semifinals appearance at last year’s Miami Open. From there, she won the Italian Open, reached the finals in Cincinnati and reached the semifinals in Wuhan. So far this year, it’s been relatively early exits with a third round loss at the Australian Open and a pair of second round exits in Qatar and Dubai. Paolini fell in the fourth round at Indian Wells, which was her best finish thus far in 2026, so she’s entering the tournament with a little bit of momentum.

Elina Svitolina

Svitolina enters Miami in strong form following a semifinal appearance at the Australian Open, a finals appearance in Dubai, and another semifinal run at Indian Wells. She reached the semifinals in Miami in 2021 and the fourth round last year. Svitolina hasn’t won a WTA 1000 title since 2018, but this could be an opportunity to change that.

Karolina Muchova

In just her second season as a pro, Muchová has already shown impressive form. She won last year’s Canadian Open, reached the fourth round of this year’s Australian Open, made the final in Qatar, and reached the quarterfinals at Indian Wells. Still just 19, she continues to emerge as a major threat. She was eliminated in the second round in Miami last year.
