Detroit Tigers (18-20) at Kansas City Royals (17-21) — Game Preview
Two AL Central clubs trying to dig out of mediocre starts open a series at Kauffman. Detroit lost three straight to Boston coming out of a hot stretch and arrives at 18-20. Kansas City is 17-21 after dropping the last two of a four-game set against Cleveland. Keider Montero (2-2, 3.48 ERA) starts for the Tigers and has shown flashes of being a back-end answer. He faces Kris Bubic (3-1, 3.32 ERA), who has the better full-season profile so far. Kevin McGonigle leads Detroit with a .299 average, but the offense is missing Tarik Skubal on the IL and that has hurt. Bobby Witt Jr. is hitting .298 for Kansas City, with Vinnie Pasquantino driving in 18 and Cole Ragans piling up 45 strikeouts in his outings.
