Players to Watch: San Francisco Giants vs. Texas Rangers

San Francisco Giants

Jung Hoo Lee — RF. Lee is hitting .305 with a .340 on-base percentage, the highest average of the three Giants featured here ahead of Rafael Devers at .246 and Willy Adames at .222. His .452 slugging mark shows he does more than find gaps, which gives San Francisco a right fielder who drives the ball as well as he gets on base.

Rafael Devers — 1B. Twenty-three home runs and 62 RBIs make Devers the run producer San Francisco leans on, more than Adames has delivered with 18 home runs and 47 RBIs. He backs that with a .320 on-base percentage and a .473 slugging mark, and while his .246 average sits well behind Lee’s .305, the damage he does when he connects is what keeps him at the heart of the lineup.

Willy Adames — SS. Power from shortstop is harder to come by than power at first base, and Adames has 18 home runs and 47 RBIs to go with a .411 slugging mark. His .222 average is the lowest of the three Giants here against Lee’s .305 and Devers’ .246, and a .279 on-base percentage means the value shows up in the extra-base hits rather than the volume.

Texas Rangers

Joc Pederson — DH. Pederson handles the bulk of the designated hitter work for Texas and has hit 20 home runs, one more than Jake Burger’s 19, with 42 RBIs. A .339 on-base percentage paired with a .250 average tells you he takes his walks rather than chasing the count, which matters for a bat built around slug.

Jake Burger — 1B. Sixty-six RBIs lead all Texas hitters in this matchup, ahead of Ezequiel Duran’s 63 and Pederson’s 42, and Burger has added 19 home runs from first base. His .237 average trails Duran’s .278, but a .295 on-base percentage and a .421 slugging mark still make him a reliable source of run production.

Ezequiel Duran — SS. Duran carries the highest average of the three Rangers here at .278, ahead of Pederson’s .250 and Burger’s .237. He is more than a singles hitter, with 13 home runs, 63 RBIs and a .463 slugging mark out of the shortstop spot. A .329 on-base percentage rounds out a balanced line at a premium defensive position.
