Players to Watch: New York Yankees vs. Philadelphia Phillies

New York Yankees

Ben Rice — 1B. Rice is hitting .277 with 30 home runs and 71 RBIs, more than Bellinger’s 11 and Chisholm Jr.’s 16 combined among the Yankees hitters featured tonight. His .590 slugging percentage climbs well past his .366 on-base mark, a gap that points to a game built around extra bases.

Cody Bellinger — LF. Across 367 at-bats, Bellinger has posted a .256 average with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs, giving New York a steady bat from the left side in the middle of the order. His .347 on-base percentage and .417 slugging mark him as a source of consistent, if not flashy, production.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. — 2B. Chisholm has turned in 16 home runs and 43 RBIs while hitting .225, a profile built more on power than average. His .300 on-base percentage trails his .415 slugging by a wide margin, the same profile of power outweighing patience that defines much of the Yankees’ lineup this year.

Philadelphia Phillies

Bryce Harper — 1B. With 21 home runs, 60 RBIs and a .363 on-base percentage, Harper serves as the primary power threat in the middle of the Phillies’ order. His .493 slugging percentage is the second-highest among tonight’s six featured hitters, behind only Rice’s .590 mark for New York.

Kyle Schwarber — DH. Schwarber’s 33 home runs lead all hitters in this matchup, well ahead of Harper’s 21 and every other bat on either roster. He has driven in 61 runs while hitting .248, a profile that leans entirely on the long ball.

Brandon Marsh — LF. Marsh is hitting .292 with a .330 on-base percentage and a .478 slugging mark, the highest average among tonight’s featured hitters and comfortably ahead of Rice’s team-best .277 for New York. His approach built on contact rather than power gives the Phillies a different look than the run producers around him in the lineup.
