What Is ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 About?
Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers for Season 1 of Dexter: Resurrection and previous installments in the Dexter franchise.
First introduced in Showtime’s original Dexter series in 2006, Dexter Morgan is a Miami police blood-spatter analyst who secretly leads a double life as a serial killer. Following a strict code taught to him by his adoptive father, Dexter targets criminals who have escaped justice. The original series ran for eight seasons before returning with the 2021 sequel Dexter: New Blood, which seemingly ended Dexter’s story when his son shot him.
But Dexter survived. Dexter: Resurrection picks up weeks later, with Dexter awakening from a coma and traveling to New York City to reconnect with his son. Season 1 saw the father and son struggle to rebuild their complicated relationship while Dexter became involved with billionaire Leon Prater, who hosted an exclusive gathering of serial killers. The season culminated in Dexter and Harrison killing Prater.
Season 2 picks up three years after the events of the first season, with Dexter still in New York City and a new wave of serial killers drawing his attention. Among them are Don Framt, better known as the New York Ripper, and Owen Stark, the Five Borough Killer. Meanwhile, Dexter’s son has joined the NYPD and is beginning to carve out his own path, though his relationship with his father and their shared history of violence remain difficult to escape.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 Cast & Characters Guide
Here’s a look at the confirmed cast for the second season of Dexter: Resurrection:
Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan
Known from: Dexter, Six Feet Under, Gamer, Paycheck, Game Night, Kill Your Darlings
Michael C. Hall returns as the titular character Dexter Morgan, a meticulous, calculating serial killer who has spent most of his life hiding his murderous urges behind the facade of an ordinary man. Charming and quick-witted on the surface, Dexter is a master manipulator with an obsessive need for control. Guided by the Code of Harry, a set of rules taught to him by his adoptive father, he targets murderers who have escaped justice, allowing him to justify his own killings as morally superior to those of his victims.
Despite his claims that he’s incapable of genuine human emotion, Dexter has formed deep attachments to the people in his life, particularly his family. His relationships with his late wife, Rita, and his son, Harrison, have repeatedly challenged his belief that he’s fundamentally different from everyone else. Although he often longs for a normal life, Dexter genuinely enjoys killing, creating a constant conflict between his desire for human connection and the murderous impulses he calls his Dark Passenger.
Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan
Known from: Killing Faith, The Good Lord Bird, The Blacklist, Poker Face
Jack Alcott plays Harrison Morgan, Dexter’s estranged son, who has inherited more from his father than either of them would like to admit. As a baby, Harrison witnessed the brutal murder of his mother, Rita, a traumatic experience that echoes Dexter’s own childhood. After years of abandonment and unanswered questions about his father’s past, Harrison grew into an independent but troubled young man struggling with anger, resentment and his own violent impulses.
Unlike Dexter, Harrison has a strong sense of empathy and a genuine desire to protect others, though his emotions can sometimes get the better of him. His complicated relationship with Dexter is shaped by a mixture of longing, distrust and fear that he might become just like his father. Despite their differences, Harrison shares Dexter’s instinct to seek justice when the system fails, but his decision to join the NYPD suggests he’s determined to find a different path than his father.
Uma Thurman as Charley
Known from: Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Pulp Fiction, Batman & Robin, Hysterical Blindness, Smash
Uma Thurman plays Charley, a former Special Operations officer who serves as the fiercely loyal right-hand woman and head of security for billionaire Leon Prater. Charley is strict and intimidating — and a woman of few words. Despite her loyalty to Prater, Charley’s mother’s declining health is her biggest concern. Prater uses his wealth to help pay for her mother’s medical care, making Charley dependent on him and complicating her willingness to follow his orders. But with Prater dead, Charley is now on her own.
James Remar as Harry Morgan
Known from: Oppenheimer, It: Welcome to Derry, The Odyssey, Sex and the City
James Remar plays Harry Morgan, Dexter’s late adoptive father and the Miami Metro detective responsible for teaching him the Code of Harry. A stern, pragmatic and protective father, Harry was a man who believed in discipline and order. After recognizing Dexter’s violent tendencies at a young age, Harry developed a strict set of rules to channel his son’s murderous urges toward criminals who had escaped justice. Although well-intentioned, Harry’s controlling nature and questionable moral judgment ultimately shaped Dexter into the killer he became.
Although Harry died before the events of the original series, he remains a constant presence in Dexter’s life, appearing as a manifestation of his conscience and inner thoughts. His guidance continues to influence Dexter’s decisions, even as Dexter questions whether his father’s teachings saved him or made him into the killer he became.
Desmond Harrington as Joey Quinn
Known from: The Neon Demon, Sneaky Pete, Rescue Me, Gossip Girl, The Hole
Desmond Harrington reprises his role as Joey Quinn, a former Miami Metro homicide detective known for his sharp instincts, sarcastic humor and willingness to bend the rules to get results. Cocky, impulsive and occasionally reckless, Quinn has never been afraid to challenge authority or follow a hunch, even when it gets him into trouble. His questionable methods and brushes with corruption have often put him at odds with his fellow officers, though he has a strong sense of loyalty to the people he cares about.
Quinn was also romantically involved with Dexter’s adoptive sister, Debra Morgan, and once suspected Dexter of hiding something sinister. Although he never fully uncovered Dexter’s double life, Quinn’s suspicions about him were never entirely put to rest.
Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara
Known from: The Lincoln Lawyer, Smoke, Dead Ringers, The Chi, Treme
Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine plays Blessing Kamara, a hardworking New York City rideshare driver who befriends Dexter after his arrival in the city. Originally from Uganda, Blessing is a former child soldier who has worked to put his traumatic past behind him and build a better life for his family. Warm, generous and deeply compassionate, he is a devoted husband and father who believes in giving people a second chance.
Despite the hardships he’s endured, Blessing maintains an optimistic outlook on life and is quick to extend kindness to strangers. He welcomes Dexter into his home and treats him like family, unaware of his new friend’s violent past.
Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace
Known from: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, FBI, Blue Bloods
Kadia Saraf plays Detective Claudette Wallace, a sharp, determined homicide detective with the New York Police Department. Wallace has a reputation for being thorough and persistent, refusing to let unanswered questions or inconsistencies go unnoticed. Her methodical approach to investigations makes her a formidable presence in the precinct, particularly when others are quick to dismiss a lead.
Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva
Known from: Nurse Jackie, Homeland, 13 Hours, Elsbeth, Godfather of Harlem
Dominic Fumusa plays Detective Melvin Oliva, a seasoned NYPD homicide detective who works alongside Detective Claudette Wallace. Confident and sometimes outspoken to the point of being abrasive, Oliva has a blunt, no-nonsense approach to police work. His years on the force have given him a practical outlook on investigations, often just relying on experience and gut instinct.
Krysten Ritter as Mia LaPierre / Lady Vengeance
Known from: Jessica Jones, Big Eyes, Breaking Bad, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23
Krysten Ritter plays Mia LaPierre, a successful fashion designer who leads a double life as a serial killer known as Lady Vengeance. Stylish and effortlessly charming, Mia uses her glamorous public persona to conceal a ruthless streak and a taste for violence. Unlike Dexter, who follows a strict code, Mia operates according to her own rules, targeting men she believes have wronged women.
Mia is one of the killers invited to billionaire Leon Prater’s exclusive gatherings, where she meets Dexter under his alias, Red. The two share an immediate attraction, fueled by their mutual fascination with murder and the freedom of being around someone who understands their darkest impulses. But beneath Mia’s flirtatious exterior is a calculated killer.
Eric Stonestreet as Al Walker / Rapunzel
Known from: Modern Family, Almost Famous, The Loft, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
Eric Stonestreet plays Al Walker, a serial killer known as Rapunzel who targets women with long hair. Behind his unassuming appearance is a deeply disturbed murderer who collects his victims’ hair as trophies. Socially awkward and unsettlingly casual about his crimes, Al lacks the charm and sophistication of some of the other killers in Leon Prater’s secret society.
Brian Cox as Don Framt / The New York Ripper (NEW)
Known from: Succession, Troy, X2: X-Men United, Adaption, Medici, Churchill
Brian Cox joins the cast as Don Framt, an infamous serial killer known as the New York Ripper. Although his killing spree is believed to be over, Framt has never truly let go of his past. Rather than disappearing into obscurity, he continues to torment the survivors of his attacks, reminding them of the horrors they endured.
Framt is as sadistic as he is obsessed with maintaining power over him victims, and appears to take as much pleasure in the psychological suffering he inflicts as he does in the violence itself.
Dan Stevens as Owen Stark / The Five Borough Killer (NEW)
Known from: Downton Abbey, Beauty and the Beast, The Guest, Legion, The Ritual
Dan Stevens joins the cast as Owen Stark, a serial killer terrorizing New York City under the name the Five Borough Killer. Unlike the New York Ripper, whose crimes belong largely to the past, Stark is actively building a reputation for himself, taunting authorities through threatening phone calls to the police.
Nona Parker Johnson as Fiona Mixon (NEW)
Known from: Law & Order: Organized Crime, Sugar, Mayor of Kingstown
Nona Parker Johnson joins the cast as Fiona Mixon, an NYPD homicide training officer and Harrison Morgan’s new love interest. As the daughter of Captain Mixon, Fiona has close ties to law enforcement both professionally and personally. With Fiona coming from a family of law enforcement officers and Harrison from a family of killers, the two couldn’t have more different backgrounds.
Bokeem Woodbine as Captain Mixon (NEW)
Known from: Spider-Man: Homecoming, Halo, Fargo, Queen & Slim, Undergound
Bokeem Woodbine joins the cast as Captain Mixon, a high-ranking NYPD officer and the father of Fiona Mixon, Harrison Morgan’s new love interest. With Harrison joining the NYPD and dating his daughter, the precinct captain now has both a professional and personal connection to Dexter’s son.
Gabriel Luna as Ray Ballard / The Sleepy-Eyed Stranger (NEW)
Known from: Terminator: Dark Fate, Agents of S.H.I.L.E.D., The Last of Us, The Terminal List
Gabriel Luna joins the cast as Ray Ballard, a serial killer known as the Sleepy-Eyed Stranger. Not much else has been revealed about his character, but Ballard adds another name to New York City’s growing list of killers.
