What Is ‘The Terminal List’ About?

Warning: The following description and cast guide contain spoilers for Season 1 of The Terminal List and The Terminal List: Dark Wolf.

The Terminal List follows James Reece, a Navy SEAL commander whose life unravels after a disastrous mission in Syria leaves nearly his entire platoon dead. When his wife and daughter are subsequently murdered, Reece sets out to uncover the truth, discovering that his team was secretly subjected to an experimental drug that caused brain tumors.

As he investigates, Reece begins to uncover a larger government conspiracy involving military officials and pharmaceutical executives. He begins hunting down those responsible, adding their names to his terminal list and eliminating them one by one. His pursuit of revenge culminates in a devastating betrayal when he discovers that his closest friend, Ben Edwards, helped orchestrate the ambush that killed his men.

The franchise also includes the prequel series The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, which explores Ben Edwards’ earlier career as a Navy SEAL and CIA operative. Set years before the events of the original series, the prequel introduces several characters who are set to return for Season 2.

Season 2 picks up after Reece has completed his revenge and disappeared, with his own brain tumor still threatening his future. When a new international conspiracy emerges, Reece finds himself drawn back in.

‘The Terminal List’ Season 2 Cast & Characters Guide

Here’s a look at the cast of The Terminal List, featuring a mix of new and returning characters:

Chris Pratt as James Reece

Known from: Guardians of the Galaxy, Parks and Recreation, Jurassic World, Passengers, Moneyball

Chris Pratt returns as James Reece, a Navy SEAL commander who was out for blood in the first season of The Terminal List. Fiercely loyal to his family and squadmates, he is determined to hold wrong-doers responsible after a disastrous operation in Syria left nearly his entire platoon dead. His life then took an even darker turn when his wife, Lauren, and young daughter, Lucy, were murdered in their home. Beneath the sharp combat instincts driving him is a grieving husband, father and friend.

Those devastating losses turn his loyalty hardens into an obsession. His memory loss, hallucinations and brain tumor further complicate his search for answers, forcing a man accustomed to trusting his instincts to question his own mind.

Constance Wu as Katie Buranek

Known from: Crazy Rich Asians, Fresh Off the Boat, Hustlers, Not Suitable for Work

Constance Wu returns as Katie Buranek, an investigative journalist and war correspondent who played a crucial role in exposing the government conspiracy at the center of the first season. Curious, resourceful and persistent, Katie is committed to uncovering the truth, even when doing so puts her own safety at risk.

Her relationship with James Reece is complicated by their different approaches to justice. While Katie believes in exposing wrongdoing through her reporting, Reece is willing to take matters into his own hands. Despite their disagreements, the two develop a mutual respect, with Katie becoming one of the few people Reece can trust.

Season 2 finds Katie dealing with the aftermath of publishing Reece’s story. Despite the attention her reporting received, her newfound notoriety has potentially jeopardized her journalism career.

Tom Hopper as Raife Hastings (NEW)

Known from: Black Sails, Game of Thrones, Merlin, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

Tom Hopper reprises his role as Raife Hastings, a former Navy SEAL and one of James Reece’s oldest and most trusted friends. Introduced in The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, Raife is a loyal, principled operative whose strong moral compass often puts him at odds with those around him. Unlike his friend Ben Edwards, Raife is reluctant to compromise his values, even when doing so could make his job easier.

Raife and Reece share a friendship dating back to their college rugby days, strengthened by their military service and shared love of hunting. His loyalty also extends to Ben, whom he promises Reece he’ll look after following Ben’s discharge from the Navy SEALs. However, Raife’s growing concerns about Ben’s increasingly questionable decisions reveal a man torn between protecting his friends and doing what he believes is right.

Dar Salim as Mohammed Farooq (NEW)

Known from: The Covenant, Darkland, The Devil’s Double, Game of Thrones, The Gentlemen

Dar Salim reprises his role as Mohammed “Mo” Farooq, an Iraqi Special Operations Forces officer and CIA contractor introduced in The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. Mo is driven by a deep commitment to protecting his country and loved ones. When CIA spymaster Jed Haverford betrayed their team and framed them for a deadly attack, Mo helped Ben Edwards expose the conspiracy and eliminate those responsible, proving himself a loyal and principled ally.

His determination stems from a traumatic childhood under Saddam Hussein’s regime, during which his father and two sisters were murdered by Hussein’s son, Uday. Rather than allowing those losses to define him, Mo channels his grief into a sense of purpose and responsibility.

Luke Hemsworth as Jules Landry (NEW)

Known from: Westworld, Gunner, Deadloch, Death of Me, Crypto

Luke Hemsworth reprises his role as Jules Landry, an unpredictable CIA contractor from The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. Known for his volatile temper and aggressive approach to covert operations, Landry is a skilled, but arrogant, operative whose impulsive behavior frequently puts him at odds with his teammates.

In Dark Wolf, Landry worked alongside Ben Edwards, Raife Hastings and Mohammed Farooq, but his abrasive personality and willingness to resort violence created tension within the group, particularly with Ben. Despite his demeanor, Landry remains a capable and loyal operative.

Shiraz Tzarfati as Tal Varon (NEW)

Known from: The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, Theodosia, The Serpent Queen

Shiraz Tzarfati reprises her role as Tal Varon, a Mossad intelligence operative introduced in The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. Intelligent and eager, Tal was pushing to move beyond her desk job in the cyber and forgery division, and gain experience in the field.

Under the guidance of veteran Mossad operative Eliza Perash, Tal was able to build up the confidence and experience needed to work alongside seasoned CIA agents. Although initially less experienced than her teammates, she is quick-thinking and technically apt, which she used to uncover valuable intelligence for the team.

Gabriel Luna as Freddy Strain (NEW)

Known from: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Last of Us, Bernie, Terminator: Dark Fate

Gabriel Luna joins the cast as Freddy Strain, a former SEAL Team 6 Senior Chief who now serves as an officer in the CIA’s Ground Branch. An elite sniper and devoted family man, Freddy is driven by a strong sense of duty and loyalty to his country and his family.

While Freddy and Reece both share a military background, their differing views on duty and morality create an interesting dynamic as they begin working together. Reece’s willingness to operate outside the rules challenges Freddy’s principles, while Freddy’s commitment to his beliefs offers Reece a chance to rediscover his own sense of purpose. In many ways, Freddy represents the man Reece might have been had he not endured the devastating losses and betrayals that changed the course of his life.

Costa Ronin as Vasili Adrenov (NEW)

Known from: Homeland, The Americans, For All Mankind, Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood

Costa Ronin joins The Terminal List Season 2 as Vasili Adrenov, a mysterious new character whose background and allegiances have yet to be revealed.

Ronin is no stranger to espionage thrillers, having previously portrayed Soviet intelligence officer Oleg Burov in The Americans and Russian operative Yevgeny Gromov in Homeland. Whether Adrenov will emerge as an ally or adversary to Reece remains to be seen.

Martin Sensmeier as Sergeant Major Otatkay (NEW)

Known from: The Magnificent Seven, 1883, The Last Manhunt, Westworld

Martin Sensmeier joins The Terminal List Season 2 as Sergeant Major Otatkay, a new military character whose involvement in James Reece’s story has yet to be revealed.

Sensmeier previously starred alongside Chris Pratt in the 2016 Western The Magnificent Seven, where he portrayed Red Harvest. He is also known for playing the Comanche warrior Sam in 1883, a prequel to Yellowstone, and Wanahton in HBO’s Westworld.
