Players to Watch: San Francisco Giants vs. Seattle Mariners
San Francisco Giants
Rafael Devers — 1B. Devers anchors the middle of the Giants’ lineup from first base, hitting .249 with a team-high 19 home runs and 52 RBIs this season. His .479 slugging percentage still stands out on a San Francisco roster that has otherwise struggled to drive the ball, giving the Giants their most reliable source of extra-base pop during a difficult stretch.
Luis Arraez — 2B. A .330 batting average has Arraez running near the top of the National League’s hitting leaders, and he’s doing it while manning second base for a Giants club that badly needs the production. His .369 on-base percentage and .460 slugging percentage give him one of the more well-rounded lines on the roster, a rare bright spot for San Francisco this season.
Jung Hoo Lee — RF. Lee has quietly put together a .302 average out of right field, adding 5 home runs and 33 RBIs while getting on base at a .333 clip. He gives the Giants a steady presence in the lineup, someone who consistently sees pitches and extends at-bats even as the team sits well outside contention.
Seattle Mariners
Randy Arozarena — LF. Out in left field, Arozarena has been Seattle’s most complete hitter, batting .286 with 11 home runs, 45 RBIs and a .380 on-base percentage. That combination of average and power makes him the engine of a Mariners lineup trying to close the gap in a tight AL West race.
Dominic Canzone — DH. Canzone has provided real thump from the designated-hitter spot, launching 15 home runs and driving in 40 runs to go with a .529 slugging percentage. His .264 average rounds out a season that has made him one of the more dangerous bats in the middle of the order.
J.P. Crawford — SS. Crawford’s calling card is patience at the plate, and his .334 on-base percentage from the shortstop position reflects it even with a .218 batting average. He’s added 10 home runs and 28 RBIs from the bottom of the order, further evidence that Seattle’s lineup carries more depth than its record alone suggests.
