Players to Watch: New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins
New York Mets
Juan Soto — LF. Soto anchors the middle of the Mets’ lineup, hitting .279 with 24 home runs and 59 RBIs as the club’s most feared power threat this season. He remains one of the few building blocks the Mets can point to as the season winds down.
Bo Bichette — 3B. Bichette has put together a .265 average with 16 home runs and 72 RBIs at third base, giving the Mets another middle-of-the-order threat despite the team’s record. His run production has stayed steady all summer even as New York’s playoff hopes faded.
Carson Benge — RF. Carson Benge has emerged as one of the Mets’ better on-base options, hitting .274 with a .335 OBP and a .413 slugging percentage from right field. His contact skills and gap power give New York another option atop the order as the season winds down.
Miami Marlins
Otto Lopez — SS. Otto Lopez has been Miami’s most consistent hitter, posting a .301 average to go with a .437 slugging percentage and 10 home runs at shortstop. He has also driven in 64 runs, giving the Marlins production from a position that doesn’t always provide it.
Heriberto Hernandez — LF. Heriberto Hernandez supplies the swing-and-miss power in Miami’s lineup, matching Soto’s 24 home runs despite a .228 average that reflects an all-or-nothing approach at the plate. His 63 RBIs show the power has translated into runs even when the average hasn’t cooperated.
