Players to Watch: LA Dodgers vs. Detroit Tigers
LA Dodgers
Freddie Freeman — 1B. Freeman anchors the Dodgers’ lineup at first base, hitting .300 on the season with a .372 on-base percentage that reflects one of the more patient approaches in the order. His .458 slugging percentage shows he’s doing plenty of damage beyond just making contact, giving Los Angeles a steady presence at the top of the lineup.
Shohei Ohtani — DH. Ohtani supplies the raw power in the middle of the Dodgers’ order as the designated hitter, sitting on 30 home runs and 80 RBIs to go with a .285 average. Few bats in this lineup carry more threat of clearing the fence than his.
Max Muncy — 3B. Max Muncy has quietly put together one of the more productive power seasons on the roster, launching 26 home runs and driving in 67 runs from the third base spot. His .501 slugging percentage is the loudest number in his line, evidence of an approach built around extra-base damage.
Detroit Tigers
Kevin McGonigle — SS. McGonigle has settled in as one of Detroit’s more reliable bats at shortstop, hitting .278 with a .379 on-base percentage that points to a disciplined eye at the plate. His .423 slugging mark adds pop to a Tigers lineup still searching for consistent offense.
Dillon Dingler — C. Dillon Dingler has emerged as one of the most productive bats on Detroit’s roster, launching 26 home runs and driving in 82 runs, both totals ahead of Torkelson’s 20 home runs and 63 RBIs. His .254 average is the only modest number in an otherwise strong offensive season from the catcher spot.
Spencer Torkelson — 1B. Spencer Torkelson gives the Tigers another source of thump at first base, hitting .223 with 20 home runs and 63 RBIs this season backing up a .408 slugging percentage. His .315 on-base percentage points to a patient approach that has helped keep Detroit’s lineup competitive in a difficult season.
