The good news is they won 19 more games than they did the year before when they set a major league record for most losses in a season. So, the team is trending up. But still, there is a long way to go.
The White Sox are preseason long shots to make the playoffs. But they’ve added some new pieces. They’ve got some exciting young players. To be a White Sox fan is to always think you’ve got a chance.

The White Sox once again finished near the bottom of the major league baseball standings, posting the league’s second-worst record and being among the bottom five teams in runs, hits and slugging percentage.
On the mound they fared slightly better, hovering around league average in team ERA and walks allowed. But for the White Sox, there’s really nowhere to go but up. And for White Sox fans, there’s plenty to look forward to in the years ahead.
Shortstop Colson Montgomery played in just 71 games but hit 21 home runs and drove in 55 in the second half of the season. With a full year, there’s a lot of damage that he can do.
Miguel Vargas hit 32 doubles to go along with 16 home runs and Lenin Souza led the team with 22 home runs and 75 RBIs.
Adrian Hauser went 6-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 11 games until he was traded at the deadline. Shane Smith made the All-Star team and finished 10th in Rookie of the Year voting.
So, while not a historic season in Chicago White Sox history, it may have been a critical turning point for this next generation to bring the team back into contention.
Chicago White Sox Schedule 2026
The White Sox find themselves in one of the most competitive divisions in baseball. Chicago opens its season in Milwaukee on Thursday, March 26th. They host the defending AL champion Toronto Blue Jays April 2-5. And then their first divisional matchup is a four-game slate in Kansas City to take on the Royals, who themselves are on the hunt for the AL Central Crown.
Here’s a view of the White Sox’s first two months of play. And while the White Sox don’t have any nationally broadcast games during this time, fans can watch games on MLB.tv, Chicago Sports Network and local broadcast channels.
If you can’t make it out to the ballpark, there are plenty of ways to catch every game on the Chicago White Sox schedule on DIRECTV. Below are a few places where you can watch White Sox baseball games.
Chicago Sports Network (Regional Sports Network) – DIRECTV Channel 665
Murakami was signed from the Japanese Baseball League in the offseason and brings elite power. He brought in anywhere from 30 to 50 home runs while in the Japanese league as a teen and in his early 20s. And he’s already delivered in spring training and the World Baseball Classic. Murakami brings a type of power hitter that Chicago has been lacking over the last few years.
Colson Montgomery, Shortstop
Montgomery came up to the major league club for the second half of the season and hit 21 home runs to go along with 55 RBIs in just 71 games. He led all position players in wins above replacement and slugging percentage to finish fifth in the Rookie of the Year voting.
With a chance to break camp with the big league squad and have a starting position right out of the gate, it’ll be a true test of Montgomery’s capability.
Shane Smith, Pitcher
Smith made the All-Star team and finished 10th in the Rookie of the Year voting. He went 7-8 with a 3.81 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 146 innings. He was especially good down the stretch where he went 4-1 and allowed two or fewer runs in five of his last seven starts.
Kyle Teel, Catcher
Teel will start the year on the injured reserve. But the 24-year-old catcher played well with the big league club a year ago. Called up at the beginning of June, Teel batted .273 with a .375 on-base percentage. He is another player for Chicago that will benefit from starting the year in the big leagues.
Austin Hayes, Outfield
In 100 games for Cincinnati last year, Hayes hit 15 home runs, 16 doubles and 64 RBIs. He provides a solid veteran presence with his career .262 hitter.
Braden Montgomery, Outfield
Montgomery came over in the Garrett Crochet deal with the Red Sox and he’s a former 12th overall pick back in 2024 and one of the best two-way prospects in his class. He hit 62 home runs in three college seasons and across the minors last season, he hit .270 with 12 home runs and 14 steals.
He plays well in the outfield, and the former pitcher hit 96 on the radar gun while in college. He could push for playing time come midseason.
Hagen Smith, Pitcher
The fifth overall pick back in 2024 has been solid in the minors. He has a tendency to walk guys, but he also has some of the highest strikeout rates in the minors. If he can get better command, he could find himself on the big league club at some point in 2026.
Chicago White Sox Rivalries
Chicago has developed rivalries with divisional foes that it’s frequently going toe to toe with and its inner-city rivalry in Chicago.
The Crosstown Classic pits the north side and south side of Chicago against one another. For a long time, the lack of interleague play kept these two teams on parallel schedules. But with the introduction of more interleague games, this matchup became an annual event once again.
One of the league’s oldest rivalries dating back to the early days of baseball. The two teams have faced each other more than 2,200 times but they’ve never faced each other in the playoffs.
