Players to Watch: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chicago Cubs

Toronto Blue Jays

Kazuma Okamoto — 3B. Kazuma Okamoto has emerged as Toronto’s primary power source at third base, batting .229 with 24 home runs and 70 RBIs. His .440 slugging percentage sits well above his .302 on-base mark, the profile of a hitter built to change games with one swing.

Ernie Clement — 2B. Ernie Clement gives the Blue Jays a steady bat at the top of the lineup, hitting .285 out of the second base spot. His .415 slugging percentage outpaces his .310 on-base mark, a sign he’s doing more damage on contact than working deep counts this season.

George Springer — DH. George Springer adds a veteran presence in the designated hitter spot, going deep 12 times with a .404 slugging percentage. He’s hitting .238 with 36 RBIs, numbers that make him a complementary power option behind Okamoto in Toronto’s lineup.

Chicago Cubs

Pete Crow-Armstrong — CF. Pete Crow-Armstrong has been a driving force in the Cubs’ offense from center field, hitting .288 with 26 home runs and 69 RBIs. His .386 on-base percentage and .552 slugging mark are the headline numbers behind that production.

Seiya Suzuki — RF. Seiya Suzuki rounds out a productive Cubs outfield, batting .273 with 19 home runs and 64 RBIs from right field. His .481 slugging percentage points to a hitter who drives the ball with authority well beyond what his .273 average alone suggests.

Nico Hoerner — 2B. Nico Hoerner sets the table for Chicago at second base, hitting .262 with 54 RBIs and a .323 on-base percentage. He’s not the power bat in this lineup, but his .367 slugging mark and steady on-base presence keep him near the top of a lineup built around Crow-Armstrong and Suzuki.
