This month, we’re shining the spotlight on the sports thriller The Cut.It’s a fresh and surprising take on the sports film genre that you won’t want to miss.

What is ‘The Cut’ About?

The Cut follows an aging, retired Irish boxer (Orlando Bloom) who’s been living quietly, teaching kids and putting his past behind him. But when a marquee fight in Las Vegas opens up last-minute, he takes the offer despite being far above the weight limit. With just about a week to drop 30-plus pounds, he enlists the ruthless coach Boz (John Turturro), and what might’ve been a classic comeback journey morphs into a physically and mentally punishing ordeal.

The Cut explores what someone will sacrifice when redemption is everything. It mixes brutal sports realism with psychological unease: extreme dieting and grueling training, trauma-tinged flashbacks and a mood that feels raw, intense and at times jaw-dropping.

Rent or buy ‘The Cut’ on DIRECTV on Ch. 125 or in the Video Store.
