Texas Rangers (44-42) at Cleveland Guardians (44-42) — Game Preview
The Texas Rangers and Cleveland Guardians meet this afternoon at Progressive Field, both sitting at 44-42 on the season — Texas leading the AL West while Cleveland sits 2 games back in the AL Central.
The Rangers have been the more productive offense, hitting .244 as a team with 91 home runs on the year, while the Guardians counter with a tighter rotation, posting a 3.77 team ERA against Texas’s 3.93. At the plate, Josh Jung has been the engine of the Rangers’ lineup, batting .297 with a .357 on-base percentage and a .447 slugging percentage from the hot corner, while on the other side Brayan Rocchio has given Cleveland reliable production at short, hitting .270 with a .342 OBP. Jake Burger brings additional punch to the Texas order, posting 52 RBIs and 14 home runs while hitting .253 at first base.
The Guardians will need Kyle Manzardo and Chase DeLauter to pick up the slack for Jose Ramirez, who is sidelined with a left hand injury, as Cleveland tries to stay within striking distance in a tight divisional race heading into the All-Star break.

Players to Watch: Texas Rangers vs. Cleveland Guardians
Texas Rangers
Josh Jung — 3B. Jung has been the Rangers’ most reliable contact option, batting .297 with a .357 on-base percentage and a .447 slugging percentage from the third-base spot. His .297 average is the highest among Texas’s three hitters in tonight’s matchup, ahead of Jake Burger at .253 and Joc Pederson at .241, and his OBP-to-SLG combination suggests a hitter who can both get on base and make something happen when he does.
Joc Pederson — DH. Pederson has been the Rangers’ primary power threat out of the designated hitter spot, sitting at 14 home runs and 31 RBIs through the first half of the season despite a .241 batting average that shows how much of his value concentrates in the extra-base game. The combination of pop and lineup protection behind Jung makes him a matchup problem for any pitching staff trying to work around the top of the order.
Jake Burger — 1B. Burger has been a consistent run-producer at first base, posting 52 RBIs and 14 home runs while hitting .253 on the season. The combination of doubles power and home run threat makes him a difficult out in the three-through-five portion of the Rangers’ lineup, and his production gives Texas genuine depth behind Jung and Pederson when the offense needs to sustain a rally.
Cleveland Guardians
Brayan Rocchio — SS. The 25-year-old shortstop has been Cleveland’s most dependable contact option in the leadoff role, hitting .270 with a .342 on-base percentage and a .385 slugging percentage on the season. He puts the ball in play consistently and gets on base at a rate that gives the middle of the order something to work with — especially now, with Jose Ramirez out of the lineup.
Chase DeLauter — RF. DeLauter has shown real run-producing upside from the outfield, putting up 37 RBIs and 7 home runs while hitting .269 through the first half. His ability to drive in runs from the middle of the Cleveland order becomes even more important in a game where the lineup needs production distributed across multiple spots.
Kyle Manzardo — 1B. Manzardo brings a patient approach to the plate, posting a .321 on-base percentage alongside a .397 slugging percentage and 10 home runs in 76 games. His .231 average understates his offensive contribution — the walks he’s drawn give Cleveland a legitimate on-base threat even when the hits aren’t falling, and his 29 RBIs make him a genuine middle-of-the-order option as the Guardians navigate the second half without Ramirez.
