Alert! Season 1 & 2 spoilers ahead.
Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams)
Kimmie is the main character of Beauty in Black. At the series’ outset, she was kicked out of her home by her mother and ended up getting roped into working as an exotic dancer for a violent pimp. She dreams of breaking into the fashion and beauty and hair care industry, inspired by her idol, Mallory Bellarie.
In Season 1, she navigates surviving life as a stripper alongside her friends Rain and Angel. She also becomes enmeshed in the Bellaries’ corrupt empire, which secretly operates trafficking and other illegal ventures — including the trafficking venture that has ensnared Kimmie — while using the beauty business as a front.
By the end of the season, her proximity to Bellarie family patriarch Horace sets up a dramatic shift: She marries Horace, takes control of the company and boldly challenges the family’s hierarchy. As she asserts herself, she morphs from victim to strategist, ultimately forming an uneasy alliance with Mallory and working to expose the family’s criminal operations. This culminates in a shocking FBI takedown that cements her as a formidable new power player.
Mallory Bellarie (Crystle Stewart)
Mallory Bellarie is the face of the Bellarie beauty empire, but under the surface lives a miserable life in a toxic marriage. Kimmie idolizes Mallory as a symbol of the type of powerful woman she aspires to become, unaware of her family’s seedier side.
Mallory quietly resents the dysfunction, corruption and toxicity within her family. To some extent, she’s surviving just like Kimmie, just under an entirely different set of circumstances. She initially views Kimmie as beneath her but starts to recognize her as a threat once she begins to amass influence within the family. By the end of Season 1, she’s allied with Kimmie to take down the family’s power structure.
Horace Bellarie (Ricco Ross)
Horace Bellarie is the calculating patriarch whose wealth and influence underpin the entire Bellarie empire.
In Season 1, Horace is revealed as the mastermind behind both the legitimate beauty brand and its hidden criminal underbelly, manipulating family members to maintain control while quietly planning for succession amid his declining health.
Season 2 intensifies his role as both kingmaker and strategist: He shocks the family by marrying Kimmie and positioning her as his successor, igniting internal warfare among his children and relatives. Even while undergoing cancer treatment abroad, Horace continues to orchestrate events from behind the scenes, eventually aligning with Kimmie and Mallory to dismantle the most dangerous elements within his own family and protect his legacy.
Rain (Amber Reign Smith)
Rain is Kimmie’s best friend whose emotional volatility and traumatic experiences make her both sympathetic and unpredictable.
In Season 1, Rain survives a near-fatal botched surgery and remains deeply tied to the dangerous club environment, relying on Kimmie for stability while struggling with her own impulses. In Season 2, her storyline gets darker as she becomes entangled in a tragic chain of events involving Jules’ son, pushing her further into morally gray territory.
Her increasingly erratic decision-making positions her as a wildcard within the plot: Her actions could either protect Kimmie or put everything at risk.
Angel (Xavier Smalls)
Angel is a street-smart hustler and key member of Kimmie’s inner circle who operates within the club’s dangerous ecosystem, working to become more deeply enmeshed within the Bellarie family’s operations. He’s a loyal friend and ally to Kimmie, but their dynamic is often tested by his own need to survive in an increasingly volatile world.
In Season 2, Angel’s involvement in the family’s criminal orbit continues to increase. He survives an attempted assassination and, as the stakes rise, he must decide between staying loyal to Kimmie and protecting himself at all costs.
Roy Bellarie (Julian Horton)
Roy Bellarie is Horace’s entitled, reckless son and Mallory’s abusive husband whose impulsive behavior fuels much of the family’s dysfunction.
In Season 1, Roy struggles to live up to his father’s legacy, masking insecurity with arrogance, infidelity and poor decision-making that strains his marriage to Mallory. Season 2 sees his flaws spiral into full-blown self-destruction, as his affairs and criminal dealings escalate tensions within the family and contribute to his downfall. Ultimately, his inability to adapt to the shifting power dynamics leaves him vulnerable, and he becomes one of the key figures caught in the FBI crackdown orchestrated by Kimmie, Mallory and Horace.
Charles Bellarie (Steven G. Norfleet)
Charles Bellarie is another of Horace’s sons whose similarly reckless and violent tendencies make him one of the most dangerous members of the family.
Charles spends Season 1 indulging in a hedonistic lifestyle tied closely to the club world, showing little regard for any of the consequences. Season 2 pushes him further into depravity after he commits murder during a robbery attempt and attempts to cover it up. As his life spirals, Charles becomes a liability to the family, ultimately contributing to the legal unraveling that leads to his arrest and sets up further consequences for the Bellarie empire.
Norman Bellarie (Richard Lawson)
Norman Bellarie is Horace’s brother and a shadowy figure within the family’s operations.
In Season 1, Norman operates largely behind the scenes, but Season 2 brings those secret dealings into sharper focus, exposing his role in the family’s illicit activities and placing him squarely in the crosshairs as tensions escalate.
As the internal power struggle intensifies, Norman’s schemes and alliances unravel, ultimately leading to his exposure and arrest as part of the broader crackdown on the Bellarie network.
Olivia Bellarie (Debbi Morgan)
Olivia Bellarie is Horace’s ex-wife.
In Season 1, she exerts influence through cunning and control, often operating behind the scenes to maintain her position. Season 2 reveals the full extent of her ruthlessness: She orchestrates violent schemes and leveraging dangerous connections to clean up the family’s messes. Her actions ultimately catch up with her and she, too, is arrested in the end-of-season FBI operation.
Jules (Charles Malik Whitfield)
Jules is the Bellarie family’s head of security, but he’s also a major and brutal player in their criminal enterprise.
In Season 1, Jules is deeply embedded in the family’s criminal infrastructure, overseeing operations that require both discretion and brutality. Season 2 adds emotional depth to his character when he suffers a devastating personal loss involving his son. As he begins to question what really happened, Jules becomes increasingly driven by grief and vengeance, setting up a potentially explosive revenge arc.
Officer Alex (Bryan Tanaka)
Officer Alex is a corrupt police officer operating on the Bellarie payroll. His presence on both sides of the law highlights the extent of the family’s influence.
Initially the family’s eyes-and-ears control mechanism, Alex becomes more complex in Season 2 as he develops a connection with Rain, blurring the lines between duty and personal involvement.
