Although fisherman Mike Mascarenhas (Edward G. Robinson) has lost a hand to a shark attack, he manages to keep working. When sharks kill a young fisherman, Mike relates the news to the man's only family member -- his sister, Quita Silva (Zita Johann). Moved by Quita's solitude and quiet beauty, Mike supports her, and in time falls in love with her. Grateful, Quita accepts his marriage proposal -- but then falls in love with another fisherman, Pipes Boley (Richard Arlen), rousing Mike's wrath.
