Doo-wop is a genre of a cappella rhythm and blues music, which originated in the '30s and '40s across African American communities in Philadelphia and Chicago, among others. Focusing on vocal harmonies, doo-wop provides a beautiful layering between a lead vocal and strong underlying voices mimicking instruments.
