‘The Amazing Race’ Episode 4 Preview
Heading into Episode 4, all 11 teams are still in the race, which is not how a leg is supposed to end. Episode 3 ran its full 90 minutes and then stopped before the last two teams reached the mat, leaving Leg 3 unfinished and an elimination hanging.
Jody Rebhun and Jenn Naso made it a close race to the Pit Stop after Naso spent more than two hours smashing pottery at the Roadblock, allowing every other team to pass them. The pair managed to make up significant ground during the Detour and fruit stall challenge, eventually finding themselves in a footrace against Doug and Dylan Matter, whose tendency to get lost has become a recurring issue already. Whether Jody and Jenn managed to pull ahead is the cliffhanger.
Three Express Passes are left, held by Ali Krieger and Joanna Lohman, Conner Wilson and Garrett McGuire and Michelle and Matthew Patterson, and all three expire at the end of Leg 6. Dafina and Saran Dunmore are carrying the season’s other new advantage, the Roadside Assistance they pulled out of a clay jug in Marrakech, which lets one of them call the other in to help on a Roadblock. It is only good through the end of Leg 5, so they have a narrow window too.

Episode Recap
Leg 3 took the 11 remaining teams from Spain to Marrakech, Morocco, on a single flight that landed at 12:30pm. It also introduced a second new advantage to sit alongside the Express Pass, and then ended without telling anyone who went home.
The Roadblock
Teams took taxis to Razani Pottery for a Roadblock called “Who feels like they’re going to pieces?” One member of each team had to smash rejected clay jugs waiting to be recycled, searching for a clue hidden inside one of them. Most of the jugs held a decoy reading “Try again,” so the task came down to volume and patience rather than skill.
Daisha Wilks and Dalton Hamby and Ann-Marie and Riley Tejcek got through it first. Jenn Naso didn’t have such luck, spending more than two hours at the pottery yard while Jody Rebhun cheered her on from the sidelines and every other team finished and moved on.
Hidden in one of the eleven clues was the Roadside Assistance, a twist new to the series. Dafina and Saran Dunmore found it. It lets a racer call their partner in to help them finish a Roadblock.
The Detour
The Detour, out in the Agafay Desert, offered Walk or Talk. Walk had teams roll two heavy tires down to a hitching post, fill the station with fresh alfalfa, then fetch two camels and lead them over to eat.
Talk put them in dune buggies to find three signposts scattered across the desert, each carrying part of the name of an Amazigh tea, which they then had to recite correctly to an elder before sitting down to drink it.
Most teams took Walk, with Dafina and Saran Dunmore the only pair to pick Talk outright. Daisha Wilks started on the tire, could not move it, and she and Dalton Hamby switched to the dune buggies. Anuar Tager and Andrea Tager Ballesca used their Express Pass to skip the Detour entirely, just as Ali Krieger and Joanna Lohman and Michelle and Matthew Patterson arrived.
Out at the buggies, the tea name was the sticking point. Dafina and Saran and Daisha and Dalton each got the pronunciation on their second attempt. Erin Taylor and Javi Vintimilla failed theirs and asked Daisha and Dalton to coach them through it, and then Daisha and Dalton did the same for Cody Langlois and Jaime Tribo, much to Erin and Javi’s dismay.
The Final Task
The last stop before the Pit Stop was Jemaa el-Fnaa square, where teams had to replicate a gravity-defying fruit display. Nearly everyone struggled with it, with fruit toppling over left and right.
Ann-Marie and Riley Tejcek used their Express Pass to skip it and went straight to the Pit Stop at Koutoubia Gardens, winning the leg. Anuar and Andrea came in second and Ali and Joanna third. Cody Langlois and Jaime Tribo finished the display and then went back to help Daisha and Dalton, returning the favor from the Detour.
Then the episode ended, with the bottom two teams still racing for the mat and no elimination announced.

What is ‘The Amazing Race’ About?
Hosted by Phil Keoghan, The Amazing Race sends teams of two with a pre-existing relationship on a race around the world. Each leg has them follow clues between countries, choose between two Detour tasks and send one member into a Roadblock, then sprint for the Pit Stop mat. The last team to check in on most legs is eliminated, and the first team to reach the finish line wins $1 million.
Season 39 marks the show’s twenty-fifth anniversary and sends 13 teams across five continents and nine countries, covering roughly 25,000 miles over twelve legs that begin in Vancouver. It also carries a first for the series: every team started the race holding an Express Pass, good for skipping one task, which has to be used by the end of Leg 6.
