Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Cast & Characters: Season 4 Guide

Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike

Known from: Crossroads, Safe, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Christopher Pike is the captain of the USS Enterprise before James T. Kirk takes the helm later in the timeline. He is a natural, empathetic leader with a calm demeanor which makes him the perfect steady hand to guide the crew through every mission. Pike strongly believes in Starfleet’s mission of exploration, but chooses to lead with diplomacy, courage and trust in his crew rather than brute force. His leadership has earned him the unwavering respect of everyone aboard the Enterprise.

Unlike most characters, Pike knows what his future holds. In Star Trek: Discovery, he witnessed a vision of a devastating accident that will one day leave him permanently disabled, however he still chooses to continue to lead the Enterprise.

Rebecca Romijn as Number One / Una Chin-Riley

Known from: X-Men, Femme Fatale, The Punisher

Una Chin-Riley, better known as Number One, is the USS Enterprise’s first officer and Captain Pike’s trusted second-in-command. She is intelligent and exceptionally capable, and she isn’t afraid to challenge Pike when she believes it’s the right call. No matter what the mission is, she’s someone the crew can always rely on to make tough decisions under pressure.

But behind her composed exterior, Number One was hiding a secret: she is an Illyrian, a humanoid species that uses genetic engineering to adapt their bodies to the worlds they inhabit rather than altering those worlds to suit them. Because genetic modification is strictly prohibited under Starfleet regulations, she spent years concealing her true identity. After her identity was exposed, Number One was put on trial but was ultimately cleared to remain in Starfleet, allowing her to finally embrace her Illyrian identity openly.

Ethan Peck as Spock

Known from: 10 Things I Hate About You (2009-2010), Rescuing Madison, The Curse of Sleeping Beauty

Spock is the USS Enterprise’s science officer and one of Starfleet’s brightest minds. As a half-human, half-Vulcan, he constantly finds himself caught between the two worlds. Since he was raised in Vulcan culture, he was taught to suppress his emotions in favor of logic and discipline. This upbringing helped shape him into the brilliant, analytical officer the Enterprise relies on.

However, throughout Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Spock has begun embracing his human side, particularly through his relationships with Nurse Chapel and his fellow Enterprise crew members. As he learns to reconcile his Vulcan upbringing with his human heritage, Spock discovers that emotion and logic don’t always have to be at odds. His journey to embrace both sides of his identity has become one of the series’ most compelling character arcs.

Jess Bush as Christine Chapel

Known from: Australia’s Next Top Model (2011), Skinford: Chapter Two, Playing for Keeps

Christine Chapel is the head nurse aboard the USS Enterprise. She’s known for her quick thinking and adventurous spirit, as well as her compassion for all of her patients and fellow crew members. While she is a highly skilled medical officer, Chapel is also driven by her endless curiosity and passion for scientific discovery, often looking beyond conventional solutions to treat the unknown. Her dedication to medicine eventually earns her the opportunity to study under renowned scientist Dr. Roger Korby, allowing her to further expand her expertise.

Christina Chong as La’An Noonien-Singh

Known from: Monroe, Halo: Nightfall, Black Mirror

La’An Noonien-Singh is the USS Enterprise’s chief security officer, responsible for protecting the crew from whatever dangers await them during their missions. As the sole survivor of a Gorn attack that claimed the rest of her family, she is fiercely protective of the people she cares about. She is always anticipating the next move and preparing for the worst. Years of hardship have made her guarded and cautious, but beneath the walls she’s built around herself is someone deeply committed to keeping those around her safe.

La’An also carries the weight of her family name. She is a descendant of Khan Noonien Singh, one of Star Trek‘s most infamous villains, and she has spent much of her life proving that her lineage does not define her character. Throughout Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, she gradually lowers her guard, allowing herself to form deeper connections with those around her while remaining one of the Enterprise’s fiercest protectors.

Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura

Known from: Jagged Little Pill, Breakwater

Nyota Uhura is the USS Enterprise’s communications officer. Her extraordinary gift for languages makes her one of the crew’s greatest assets during first contact with new civilizations. After losing her parents at a young age, Uhura joined Starfleet to honor her grandmother who raised her after their deaths. Though she initially questioned whether life in Starfleet was the right path for her, she has steadily grown into a confident and dependable officer. Nyota uses her empathy, intuition and incredible linguistic abilities to help the crew navigate interactions with alien species across the galaxy.

Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas

Known form: The Paragon Cortex, Dietland

Erica Ortegas is a pilot on the USS Enterprise, responsible for safely navigating the crew through some of their most dangerous missions. She is confident, even bordering on cocky at times, but she has the intelligence and piloting skills to back it up. Her ability to stay calm under pressure and execute daring escapes has repeatedly saved the Enterprise and its crew from seemingly impossible situations.

After being captured and critically injured during a Gorn attack, Ortegas struggled to readjust to life aboard the Enterprise. The experience left her more withdrawn and increasingly reckless. Due to her insubordination and rash actions during a mission, she was temporarily suspended from flight duty. However, with time, she worked through her PTSD and earned her place back at the Enterprise’s helm.

Babs Olusanmokun as Joseph M’Benga

Known from: Dune: Part One, Dune: Part Two, Black Mirror

Joseph M’Benga is the USS Enterprise’s chief medical officer, known for his exceptional expertise in both human and Vulcan medicine. Calm and composed under pressure, he rarely lets his true emotions show, but beneath that exterior he carries the weight of profound personal loss and the lingering trauma of his service during the Klingon War.

A defining part of M’Benga’s journey was his search for a cure for his terminally ill daughter, Rukiya. He secretly kept her in stasis in the Enterprise’s transporter buffer while searching for a way to save her, but he ultimately had to say goodbye when she chose to continue her life as a non-corporeal being, free from her illness. Those experiences have helped shape M’Benga into a healer determined to preserve life whenever he can, even as he continues to grapple with the choices he’s made.

Martin Quinn as Montgomery Scott

Known from: Our Ladies, Derry Girls

Montgomery “Scotty” Scott is a gifted engineer with an inventive mind and a knack for solving seemingly impossible technical problems. Before joining the Enterprise, Scotty survived the destruction of the USS Stardiver by using his quick thinking and engineering brilliance to outsmart the Gorn and escape as the sole survivor. Though he still carries guilt over the loss of his former crew, his resourcefulness and ability to think outside the box have made him an invaluable member of the Enterprise.

Carol Kane as Commander Pelia

Known from: The Princess Bride, Addams Family Values, Hester Street, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Commander Pelia is the USS Enterprise’s chief engineer and Scotty’s mentor. She is a Lanthanite, an ancient species with an extraordinarily long lifespan. Pelia has spent centuries accumulating knowledge and experience, giving her a unique perspective on the galaxy and new worlds. In addition to being brilliant, she is also eccentric and witty, often approaching engineering problems in unconventional ways. She often tries to encourage Scotty and the rest of the crew to think outside the box, and though her teaching methods and dry sense of humor tend to catch others off guard, her wealth of knowledge makes her one of the Enterprise’s greatest assets.

Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk

Known from: The Vampire Diaries, Tell Me a Story, Before I Disappear

James T. Kirk is a rising Starfleet officer whose confidence and charisma have already begun setting him apart. Though he has not yet taken command of the USS Enterprise, Kirk has crossed paths with Captain Pike and his crew on several occasions, proving himself to not only be courageous and resourceful, but also willing to put himself in harm’s way to protect others. His growing role in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds offers a glimpse of the legendary captain he is destined to become in Star Trek: The Original Series.
