The Seattle Mariners and Pittsburgh Pirates meet today at PNC Park with both clubs sitting near even on the season — Seattle at 41-40, Pittsburgh at 40-40. The Pirates have been the more productive offensive club this season, batting .257 as a team with 712 hits and 404 runs scored, while the Mariners come in hitting .231 with 621 hits and 330 runs, relying instead on a 3.69 team ERA that rates well below Pittsburgh’s 4.12. On the Seattle side, Julio Rodríguez anchors the offense from center field with 14 home runs and 38 RBIs, though Dominic Canzone has been arguably the club’s most well-rounded hitter this season, posting a .275 average, a .346 OBP and a .549 slugging percentage in 71 games. With Oneil Cruz on the 10-Day IL for Pittsburgh, the Pirates’ infield will look a bit different than usual today.

Players to Watch: Seattle Mariners vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

Seattle Mariners

Julio Rodríguez — CF. Rodríguez is the engine of Seattle’s lineup, hitting .248 with 14 home runs and 38 RBIs through 80 games as the team’s primary middle-of-the-order threat. His .309 OBP and .426 slugging percentage reflect a player who can beat you in multiple ways — the power numbers are consistent, even if the average hasn’t climbed as high as Seattle would like.

Luke Raley — RF. Raley has matched Rodríguez in home runs with 14 of his own, adding 35 RBIs in 70 games from the right field spot. His .490 slugging percentage and .785 OPS make him a genuine power threat in the middle of the order, and at .235 with a .295 OBP he doesn’t clog the basepaths when the big swings don’t connect.

Dominic Canzone — DH. Canzone has been Seattle’s most productive bat by OPS this season, posting a .895 mark built on a .275 average, .346 on-base percentage and .549 slugging in 71 games. With 12 home runs and 33 RBIs, he offers a blend of contact and power that neither Rodríguez nor Raley quite replicates.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Brandon Lowe — 2B. Lowe leads the Pittsburgh lineup in both home runs (18) and RBIs (49), giving the Pirates one of the more productive second basemen in the National League this season. A .505 slugging percentage and .829 OPS back up that production, even as a .246 average keeps him solidly in the middle-of-the-order power profile.

Bryan Reynolds — LF. Reynolds has been Pittsburgh’s most complete hitter this season, batting .290 with a .404 on-base percentage, 11 home runs and a team-high 52 RBIs in 80 games. That .890 OPS ranks him among the Pirates’ most reliable run producers, and the .404 OBP means Reynolds is on base far more often than most left fielders in the division.

Ryan O’Hearn — RF. O’Hearn provides a consistent right-field presence in the Pittsburgh lineup, batting .285 with 11 home runs and 44 RBIs in 65 games. His .342 OBP and .467 slugging give him a solid .809 OPS, and he’s been one of the more quietly effective hitters in the lineup all season.
