To soak up some of the influence and impact of today’s leading ladies, DIRECTV partnered with Variety for the “On the Carpet” pre-show at the honorary event to commemorate the publication’s Power of Women issue. Gracing the crimson carpet this year includes honorees: Ava DuVernay, Oprah Winfrey, Chelsea and Hillary Clinton, Malala and Elizabeth Olsen. Other sightings included Jacqueline Martinez Garcel, Quinta Brunson, Megan Stalter, Fran Drescher, Daisy O’Dell, Tina Lifford, Sydney Leroux, Diane Guerrero, Sarah Drew, Bianca Lawson, Margie Cohn, Wendy McMahon, Ayo Davis, Tia Mowry, Niecy Nash, Dia Nash and many more.
The evening kicked off with a musical performance from Halsey, interviews were conducted by Variety senior entertainment writer Angelique Jackson and senior TV features editor Emily Longeretta, and acknowledgements were handed out by Kathryn Hahn, Sandra Oh, Quinta Brunson and Diane Guerrero. It was truly a night celebrating philanthropic, powerful, talented and innovative women.

One guest, pro-soccer player slash Olympian, Sydney Leroux is no stranger to the struggles women face in male dominated industries. To punctuate the fact that women (and girls) should have equal access and treatment in sports, Leroux went undercover as a male skills coach to call attention to the unfair treatment.
Watch a girls youth soccer team’s reaction to Leroux’s Undercover Coach antics.
Throughout the night, we captured some of the best moments, looks and laughs. Relive some of the most photo-worthy captures, interviews and more..
