Players to Watch: New York Mets vs. Texas Rangers
New York Mets
Juan Soto — LF. The long ball defines Juan Soto’s season in left field, where he has hit 27 home runs with 68 RBIs and a .276 average. That blend of power and contact makes him the bat the Rangers have to plan around every time through the order.
Carson Benge — RF. Carson Benge is hitting .275 in right field, second on the Mets behind Juan Soto at .276. His .338 on-base percentage and .420 slugging percentage give New York a corner outfielder who reaches base with some pop behind it.
Bo Bichette — 3B. Run production is Bo Bichette’s calling card at third base, with 76 RBIs to go with 17 home runs and a .261 average. That RBI total tops Soto’s 68, giving the Mets a second run producer alongside their top power threat.
Texas Rangers
Jake Burger — 1B. At first base, Jake Burger has matched Soto’s 27 home runs and paired them with 89 RBIs. His .231 average means the production comes in bursts, but his power keeps any inning with runners aboard dangerous for New York.
Josh Jung — 3B. No Ranger hits for a higher average than Josh Jung, whose .294 mark sits well clear of Brandon Nimmo’s .261. The third baseman backs it with a .358 on-base percentage and a .448 slugging percentage, and his 26 doubles account for much of that extra-base production.
Brandon Nimmo — RF. Brandon Nimmo gives Texas a steady presence in right field with a .261 average, fourth on the club behind Jung’s .294. His .326 on-base percentage and .407 slugging percentage round out a balanced line in the corner outfield.
