Edmonton Oilers at Anaheim Ducks — Game Preview

Anaheim leads 3-2 and hosts tonight at Honda Center with a chance to close out the Oilers and advance to the second round. Edmonton avoided elimination with a convincing 4-1 win in Game 5, with Leon Draisaitl scoring twice and Evan Bouchard contributing three assists to send the series back to California. The Ducks have been the higher-scoring team through the series, producing 7 goals in Game 3 alone, but this Oilers team is built for high-pressure moments and the presence of Connor McDavid, playing through an ankle injury, gives Edmonton a ceiling that very few teams in the league can match. Ducks center Ryan Poehling scored the overtime winner in Game 4 to push Anaheim to a 3-1 series lead, and the combination of scoring depth and home-crowd advantage makes the Ducks the slight favorite to close it out tonight.

Anaheim Ducks lead the series 3-2.

Players to Watch: Edmonton Oilers vs. Anaheim Ducks

Edmonton Oilers

Leon Draisaitl — Center. 2 goals in Game 5. Draisaitl was the best player on the ice in Edmonton’s elimination-game win and is the player the Oilers need to be dominant if they are going to win on the road tonight. His ability to produce in high-stakes moments makes him the most reliable secondary weapon behind McDavid in this series.

Connor McDavid — Center. Playing through an ankle injury but described as improving throughout Game 5. McDavid’s presence in the lineup, even at less than full health, gives Edmonton a generational playmaking threat that changes how Anaheim’s defense has to approach every shift. His performance tonight will be the deciding factor in whether this series reaches Game 7.

Anaheim Ducks

Ryan Poehling — Center. Overtime goal in Game 4 to give the Ducks a 3-1 series lead. Poehling has been one of Anaheim’s most impactful players in the series and brings a two-way game that can neutralize Edmonton’s top line while still contributing offensively in the moments that matter most.
