Detroit Tigers (20-31) at Baltimore Orioles (21-29) — Game Preview
Two teams with losing records meet at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, with the Tigers at 20-31 and the Orioles a half-game ahead at 21-29. Neither rotation has carried its share so far, and the pitching matchup tells the story. Jack Flaherty (0-5, 5.77 ERA) takes the ball for Detroit opposite Keegan Akin (0-0, 13.5) serving as opener before Chris Bassitt (3-3, 5.44) steps in, two of which are veterans trying to right seasons that have not gone to plan. Riley Greene anchors the Tigers’ offense at a .326 clip with a .422 on-base percentage, the kind of table-setting bat that needs to keep traffic moving against Bassitt.
On the Baltimore side, Gunnar Henderson has supplied the power with 10 home runs, while Taylor Ward gets on base at a .415 rate and gives the lineup a second left-handed option behind him. Catcher Dillon Dingler has chipped in nine homers and 29 RBIs for Detroit, which has been a quietly steady presence in the middle of the order. With both starters carrying ERAs in the mid-five range, the bullpens may decide this one.

Players to Watch: Detroit Tigers vs. Baltimore Orioles
Detroit Tigers
Riley Greene — LF. Greene is hitting .326 with a .422 on-base percentage and a .475 slugging mark, giving Detroit a left-handed bat that does damage on contact and rarely gives an at-bat away. His OBP is the engine of a Tigers lineup that has otherwise struggled to string together rallies, and reaching base with that on-base mark puts pressure on the opposing rotation every time through the order.
Dillon Dingler — C. Behind the plate Dingler has produced nine home runs and 29 RBIs while hitting .241, an unusual power profile for a catcher and one that keeps Detroit’s middle-order intact on days the corner outfielders go quiet. The RBI total reflects how often he comes up with traffic ahead of him, and his at-bats tonight matter against a Bassitt who has surrendered the long ball more than he’d like this season.
Jack Flaherty — SP. Flaherty enters with an 0-5 record and a 5.77 ERA across 43.2 innings, but his 48 strikeouts show there is still swing-and-miss in his profile. The issue has been traffic, with a 1.60 WHIP, so limiting walks and early baserunners will be key against Baltimore.
Baltimore Orioles
Gunnar Henderson — SS. Henderson leads Baltimore with 10 home runs while batting .220 with 24 RBIs, giving the Orioles their clearest power threat. Even with the lower average, his extra-base ability makes him a key matchup for Flaherty in the middle of the order.
Taylor Ward — LF. Ward is hitting .257 with an excellent .415 on-base percentage and a .377 slugging number, a contact-and-walks profile that gives Baltimore a high-leverage at-bat behind Henderson. The OBP keeps innings alive in front of the power, and against a Flaherty who has issued his share of free passes the patience plays.
Chris Bassitt — SP. Bassitt is 3-3 with a 5.44 ERA over 43.0 innings, a workload that lines up with what Baltimore expected when they handed him the ball every five days, even if the results have lagged. His 1.70 WHIP and 30 strikeouts point to a pitch-to-contact approach that has not gotten the soft contact he needs, and tonight’s task is keeping Greene off the bases at the top of Detroit’s order.
