Players to Watch: Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees
Boston Red Sox
Willson Contreras — 1B. The veteran backstop turned first baseman is hitting .295 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs, giving Boston a dependable run producer in the middle of the order. His .392 OBP and .527 SLG combine for the best on-base-plus-slug profile in the Red Sox lineup. Contreras has helped carry a Boston offense that has leaned more on contact than home-run power.
Wilyer Abreu — RF. Abreu is hitting .283 with seven home runs and 28 RBIs across 60 games, giving Boston another left-handed bat with steady on-base value. His .347 OBP helps lengthen the lineup, and his 12 doubles point to gap power that can still create extra-base damage.
Ceddanne Rafaela — CF. The center fielder pairs a .286 average with 12 doubles and a .437 SLG, making him one of the more productive bats in the Boston lineup. His .347 OBP matches Abreu’s, and his five home runs and 24 RBIs round out a profile that combines contact with a bit of pop.
New York Yankees
Ben Rice — 1B. With Aaron Judge sidelined, Rice has stepped into the middle of the order and produced at a star level — .300 average, 17 home runs and 44 RBIs across the first two months. His .638 SLG is the highest mark on the Yankees roster, and the .393 OBP shows the at-bats have been disciplined as well as productive.
Cody Bellinger — LF. Bellinger has been a steady veteran presence in the Yankees lineup, hitting .273 with eight home runs and 40 RBIs. His 38 walks against just 33 strikeouts speak to the kind of plate discipline that lets him handle a prominent spot in the order, and his .468 SLG keeps the line drives finding gaps.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. — 2B. The dynamic second baseman brings a different look to the Yankees lineup, hitting .238 with seven home runs, 22 RBIs and 15 stolen bases across 59 games. His .313 OBP and 23 walks give him a workable on-base profile, and the speed component adds a layer the rest of this New York lineup does not provide.
