Boston Blue Season 2 Cast & Characters

Here’s a look at the main cast of the second season of Boston Blue.

Spoiler warning: The following character descriptions contain spoilers for Season 1 of Boston Blue and previous seasons of Blue Bloods.

Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan

Patrol

Known from: The Sixth Sense, Saw II, Zookeeper, Ransom, Dead Silence, Blue Bloods

Danny Reagan is a veteran NYPD detective who spent years building a reputation as one of the department’s most skilled investigators. Known for his sharp instincts and old-school approach to policing, Danny isn’t afraid to push boundaries or challenge authority. His stubbornness and short temper do land him in trouble, but beneath it all Danny is deeply compassionate and protective.

After relocating to Boston to be closer to his son, Sean, Danny joined the Boston Police Department and was partnered with Detective Lena Silver. While his aggressive investigative style doesn’t always align with his new colleagues, his experience and determination make him a valuable member of the department.

Season 2 finds Danny weighing a potential career change within the Boston Police Department as he continues working alongside Lena. Meanwhile, visits from his brother and grandfather bring familiar Reagan family dynamics into his new life in Boston.

Sonequa Martin-Green as Lena Silver

Anatomy of a Bomb

Known from: The Walking Dead, Star Trek: Discovery, Space Jam: A New Legacy, My Dead Friend Zoe

Lena Silver is a Boston Police Department detective and Danny Reagan’s partner. Intelligent and confident, Lena has a strong sense of justice and a commitment to protecting her community. Her more measured approach to policing sometimes contrasts with Danny’s aggressive, old-school methods, but the two develop a strong working relationship built on mutual respect.

Lena is part of the prominent Silver family, though her family history is more complicated than it might initially appear. After her biological father left when she was young, her mother, Mae, married Ben Silver, who adopted Lena and raised her alongside her stepsister, Sarah. The two grew up to become incredibly close, and the family later welcomed Lena’s younger brother, Jonah. The murder of her adoptive father had a lasting impact on the family, and Lena continues to navigate complicated relationships with those closest to her.

Season 2 finds Lena recovering from a gunshot wound sustained during the previous season while navigating new challenges within the department and complicated revelations about her family.

Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver

Blood Chemistry

Known from: Psych, Pleasantville, Gamer, Cleaner, Back in the Game, Lethal Weapon

Sarah Silver is a superintendent with the Boston Police Department who worked her way up through the ranks to become one of the department’s highest-ranking officers. Inspired by her father, Judge Ben Silver, and her stepmother, Mae, who previously served as an assistant district attorney, Sarah followed her family’s tradition of public service by pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Sarah is a dedicated leader who takes her responsibilities seriously, though her position can become complicated when her professional duties involve members of her own family. She shares a particularly close bond with Lena, her stepsister and longtime best friend, which only grew stronger after the murder of her father. In Season 2, Sarah faces another personal challenge when her estranged biological mother returns to Boston.

Mika Amonsen as Sean Reagan

Family Secrets

Known from: Thanksgiving, Reacher, Fresh Meat, Whistle

Sean Reagan is Danny Reagan’s youngest son and a patrol officer with the Boston Police Department. Determined to become the fifth generation of Reagans to serve in law enforcement, Sean moved to Boston after an NYPD hiring freeze prevented him from joining the force in New York. His move eventually brought Danny to the city.

Much like his father, Sean is confident and outspoken, particularly when it comes to family. However, he’s also responsible and hardworking, with a strong desire to prove himself as a police officer. During Season 1, Sean and fellow officer Jonah Silver unexpectedly gained attention on social media after a video of them apprehending a purse snatcher during a yoga class went viral, earning Sean the nickname “Hot Cop.”

Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver

Hard Truths

Known from: ER, Lincoln, Raising the Bar, Mr. Robot, Elsbeth, Falling Skies

Mae Silver is Boston’s district attorney and the matriarch of the Silver family. A former assistant district attorney, Mae built a successful career in the legal system while raising three children. After her first husband left the family, Mae married Judge Ben Silver, who adopted her daughter Lena, and together they raised their blended family.

Mae is deeply protective of her children and works hard to balance the demands of her career with her responsibilities as a mother. Following the murder of her husband, Ben, outside a courthouse, Mae has had to adjust to life as a widow while continuing to lead Boston’s district attorney’s office. With all three of her children working in law enforcement, her professional responsibilities frequently intersect with her family life, sometimes putting her in difficult positions as both a prosecutor and a mother.

Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver

Known from: Black-ish, Grown-ish, How to Blow Up a Pipeline, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

Jonah Silver is the youngest member of the Silver family and a police officer with the Boston Police Department. Jonah followed in the footsteps of his parents and older siblings by pursuing a career in law enforcement, but he’s determined to prove himself as a capable officer rather than simply rely on his family’s reputation.

As a younger and less experienced member of the force, Jonah is still finding his footing while navigating the expectations that come with being a Silver. The murder of his father has also left a lasting impact on him and his family. Jonah has developed a close friendship with fellow officer Sean Reagan, and the two frequently work together on patrol. Their friendship extends beyond the job, with the pair sharing a similar experience of growing up in families with law enforcement legacies.

Ernie Hudson as Reverend Edwin Peters

Known from: Ghostbusters, The Crow, The Family Business, Redemption Day

Reverend Edwin Peters is a respected Boston pastor and the patriarch of the Peters family, with longstanding ties to the Silver family. He serves as a spiritual leader and trusted figure in his community, offering guidance to those who turn to him for support.

Edwin is also Mae Silver’s father, making him the grandfather of Lena and Jonah and Sarah’s step-grandfather. While his daughter and grandchildren have dedicated their careers to the justice system, Edwin approaches many of the same challenges through his faith and his work in the community, offering a different perspective on the issues they face.

Marisa Ramirez as Maria Baez

Known from: General Hospital, Blue Bloods, Against the Wall, The Young and the Restless

Maria Baez is a veteran NYPD detective and Danny Reagan’s longtime partner from Blue Bloods. The two spent more than a decade working together in New York, developing a close friendship and a strong professional partnership. Baez is a skilled investigator who understands Danny’s sometimes impulsive approach to police work and knows when to challenge him and went to let him go rogue.

After years of friendship and growing romantic tension, Danny and Baez finally began a relationship toward the end of Blue Bloods. Although Danny’s move to Boston has put distance between them, the two have continued their relationship.

Will Estes as Jamie Reagan (NEW)

Known from: U-571, Blue Bloods, American Dreams, The Dark Knight Rises, The New Lassie

Jamie Reagan is Danny Reagan’s younger brother and a longtime member of the NYPD. Unlike Danny, Jamie takes a more measured approach to police work, placing a strong emphasis on following procedures and doing things by the book. Before joining the force, Jamie graduated from Harvard Law School, but ultimately chose to follow the Reagan family tradition of serving in law enforcement rather than pursue a career as a lawyer.

Throughout Blue Bloods, Jamie worked his way up through the NYPD ranks, eventually becoming a sergeant and later taking on a role in the department’s Field Intelligence Unit. Despite their different personalities and approaches to policing, Jamie and Danny share a close bond, even if their opposing views occasionally lead to arguments.

Will Estes makes his Boston Blue debut in Season 2, reprising his role as Jamie and bringing another familiar member of the Reagan family into the spinoff.

Len Cariou as Henry Reagan

Known from: About Schmidt, Blue Bloods, Into the Storm, Thirteen Days, Prisoners, American Classic

Henry Reagan is Danny’s grandfather and a retired New York City Police Commissioner. As the head of the Reagan family, Henry has spent much of his life dedicated to law enforcement, having served as NYPD Commissioner before his son, Frank Reagan, eventually took on the same position.

Henry is known for his traditional views on policing, outspoken personality and strong sense of family loyalty. Throughout Blue Bloods, he frequently offered advice to his children and grandchildren, drawing on decades of experience in law enforcement. Although his old-fashioned opinions sometimes led to disagreements with younger members of the family, Henry remained a central figure at the Reagan family dinner table.

Marg Helgenberger as Gwen Silver (NEW)

Known from: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Erin Brockovich, A Dog’s Journey, All Rise

Gwen Silver is Sarah Silver’s estranged biological mother and the former wife of the late Judge Ben Silver. Unlike the rest of the Silver family, Gwen has been largely absent from Sarah’s life, leaving her daughter to grow up with her father and stepmother.

Gwen arrives in Boston during Season 2, bringing back some unresolved family drama. Her return complicates Sarah’s relationship with her family, particularly Mae, who helped raise Sarah after Gwen’s departure. After years of being absent for a large portion of Sarah’s life, Gwen has to look for a way to rebuild her relationship with her daughter who has little trust in her.

Ryan Broussard as Brian Rodgers

Known from: Only Murders in the Building, Alert, Sistas, A Christmas Wish

Brian Rodgers is a detective with the Boston Police Department and Lena’s boyfriend. As a fellow member of law enforcement, Brian understands the demands of Lena’s career and the challenges that come with working in a dangerous profession. He’s a supportive and caring partner who stands by Lena through the highs and lows.

Brian’s storyline takes a dramatic turn in the Season 1 finale when he is involved in a serious car accident, leaving his fate uncertain. The incident sets up one of the major storylines heading into Season 2, with questions surrounding Brian’s condition and how Lena will cope with the aftermath.

Ward Horton as Thad Longfellow

Known from: Annabelle, Midnighters, Pure Genius, The Night Agent, The Gilded Age

Thad Longfellow is an ambitious assistant district attorney who has his sights set on replacing Mae Silver as Boston’s district attorney. Thad is extremely arrogant and willing to play dirty to get ahead. His political opinions have put him directly at odds with Mae, who strongly opposes his vision for Boston’s justice system.

Thad returns as a major antagonist in Season 2, with his campaign against Mae becoming an ongoing storyline. He’s willing to dig into the personal and professional lives of his opponents to uncover information that could give him an advantage in the election. As the race intensifies, Thad’s tactics threaten not only Mae’s political future but also the reputations of her well-known family.
