Dr. Weaver meets her birth mother (Frances Fisher), but their budding relationship changes when Weaver reveals that she is gay; Dr. Carter causes a commotion when he confronts a couple hoping to scam some painkillers.

Pratt finds a suspicious gash across the chest of a boy he is examining; Kovac treats a man who was shot when he confronted his boss with a gun; Jake tries to convince Abby that his student status shouldn't keep them from dating.

Carter treats a kidney transplant patient who appears to be having a reaction to a new drug, and when he asks Neela to post questions about the pill's side effects on the Internet, the pharmaceutical company causes an uproar.

The Providers

Two teenagers come into the ER with gunshot wounds, and when one of them dies, Neela does a poor job informing the next of kin, leaving the woman hysterical.
