On the day crew, Cheston gets a promotion but soon finds with the new position comes new dangers.

The roughnecks are on schedule to drill four holes in 50 days until they encounter the "hole from hell"; things go from bad to worse for Pee Wee's daylight crew when a drill pipe "twists off"; Cheston pushes Pee Wee to his breaking point.

Pressure builds as the Big Dog 28 crews race to finish the second of four wells within 50 days; Freddy fuels the fire by pressing the crews to prepare for an inspection; Cheston makes an error that threatens lives.

Gerald is finally back to work after passing his drug test, but he must take orders from someone half his age; Pee Wee tries to get Cheston to quit; Brandon makes a big mistake that brings the night crew's drilling to a halt.

The Big Dog 28 oil rig could explode at any time; the roughnecks have been assigned an impossible task of drilling four holes in 50 days with their jobs at stake; driller Ron must deal with flaring tempers among the night-shift crew.
