Players to Watch: Washington Nationals vs. Detroit Tigers
Washington Nationals
James Wood — RF. In right field, James Wood is hitting .265 with a .389 on-base percentage for the Nationals this season. His .511 slugging percentage adds length to the top of Washington’s lineup, giving the club a blend of contact and power that shows up in every at-bat this late in the year.
CJ Abrams — SS. CJ Abrams mans shortstop and has driven in 99 runs to go with 31 home runs and a .260 average, doing damage from the middle of Washington’s infield. He leads the Nationals in home runs, a power-speed combination that’s uncommon at his position.
Detroit Tigers
Riley Greene — LF. Riley Greene anchors the Tigers’ outfield and is hitting .284 with a .371 on-base percentage this season. His .481 slugging percentage rounds out a complete offensive profile, and he trails only Eduardo Valencia’s .354 mark for the team lead in batting average.
Dillon Dingler — C. Dillon Dingler has been a power source behind the plate for Detroit, leading the Tigers with 27 home runs and driving in 89 runs this season. His .245 average trails those counting numbers, but the pop he provides from the catcher spot adds a dimension Detroit leans on in the middle of the order.
