‘The Traitors: New Blood’ Episode 8 Preview

Heading into Episode 8, 13 players are still in the game, but one might be heading out soon. Episode 7 ended with Victor Vollbrechthausen standing in the Circle of Truth, about to give his exit speech, when Alan Cumming stopped the reveal to introduce the Power of the Pardon. Whoever banked the most gold in the day’s mission can let the banishment stand or keep Victor in the game.

The mission narrows the field. Four black hearts hidden in the scarecrows knocked Victor, Morgan Cook, Wyatt Gillespie and Katie Fites out of contention for the power, which leaves nine eligible players.

The Traitors also go in with their first visible friction. Before the Round Table, Tomica gave Victor Katie’s name as a possible Traitor, and Katie was stunned to hear it. The episode description promises theories scrutinized, minds changed and a brutal banishment that sends emotions spiraling.

Episode Recap

Episode 7, “It’s Like Fighting Two Pigs Under a Blanket,” opened in the turret and closed with the biggest rules change of the season.

The Murder

Katie Fites, Tomica Adams and Joe Vanella spent the opening scene in the turret. Tomica pushed to murder Victor Vollbrechthausen, but the other two pointed out that killing the player openly accusing them would only look like proof. They put Wyatt Gillespie, Mark Zgoda and Kriste Lewis on the shortlist instead.

The victim was Mark, a personal trainer from Phillipsburg, New Jersey, whom the castle had taken to calling its puppy dog. The mood at breakfast was noticeably somber without him. Victor left more convinced than ever that Tomica was a Traitor, and Ben McDonnell began to wonder why Katie seemed so calm.

The Mission

The mission took place in a field of scarecrows on the castle grounds. Players had 15 minutes to pull unmarked bags of gold out of the scarecrows and bank them in their own barrels. The group collected $15,300 for the pot, bringing it to $112,300.

Cumming also told them that whoever banked the most would win a power he would explain later. Four black hearts were hidden among the scarecrows, and a player who found one could drop it into another player’s barrel to make that player ineligible. Shane Beatty used his on Victor Vollbrechthausen, Clyde Moser on Morgan Cook, Abby Lee on Wyatt Gillespie and Ben McDonnell on Katie Fites. No shields were offered.

The Round Table

Kriste Lewis opened by calling out Abby Lee for being wrong about both Arisa Thomas and Sherry Kuehl, and Abby answered by pushing her Wyatt theory again. Victor Vollbrechthausen tried to steer the table back to Niyyah Hayes’ murder, but Jay Vinnedge called him a distraction and said he would vote for him. Wyatt, Victor, Tomica and Katie all took heat before the vote.

Victor received the most votes in a divided result. Standing in the Circle of Truth, he was about to give his exit speech when Cumming stopped him and revealed the Power of the Pardon. Its holder can stand with the table and send him home, or pardon him and keep him in the game. His role was never revealed, and the episode ended before the power holder was named.

What is ‘The Traitors: New Blood’ About?

Hosted by Alan Cumming, The Traitors drops a group of players into a Scottish castle and secretly divides them into two groups: the Faithful and the Traitors.

All of the players work together on missions to build a shared prize pot. Throughout the game, the Faithful gather at the Round Table to try to identify the hidden Traitors, while the Traitors secretly murder Faithful players and continue pretending to be on their side. If every Traitor is identified and banished by the end, the Faithful split the pot. If even one Traitor survives, they take the whole thing.

Season 5, titled The Traitors: New Blood, is the first all-civilian season of the American series, with 22 everyday players chosen from more than 80,000 applicants. Players will be competing for a pot worth up to $250,000, and for the first time an extra $15,000 is added every time the Faithfuls successfully banish a Traitor.

Earlier seasons featured a mix of reality stars and other recognizable public figures, many of whom entered the game with established personalities and reputations. This cast arrives with neither, giving everyone a fresh start in the competition.
