‘Squid Game’ Season 3: Release Date, Everything to Know

Squid Game was an instant hit and cultural phenomenon when it hit Netflix in 2021. It quickly became Netflix’s all time most-watched series at launch and exposed Western markets to the potential of Korean and other international television series. Needless to say, there were plenty of green track suits and red/pink hazmat suits seen on Halloween night that year.

Now, protagonist Gi-hun’s tense conflict with the shadowy Front Man is coming to its brutal conclusion: Squid Game Season 3 will close out one of the most innovative and beloved series ever to hit streaming this summer.

When Does ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 Come Out?

The Squid Game Season 3 release date is set for June 27, 2025. Since the series is a Netflix original, you’ll need a subscription to Netflix to stream it.

Season 2 came out in December 2024, so we’ve only had to wait through a six-month gap between season releases! That’s partly due to the fact that they filmed season 3 directly after season 2.

What Will ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 Be About?

Squid Game Season 2 ended with a major cliffhanger: After Gi-hun won his first go-round in the sinister Front Man’s event, where a group of 456 down-on-their-luck people, each facing serious financial woes, are offered a chance to win a life-changing sum of cash. The twist? Losing in any of the games results in a participant’s death, either through the game’s dynamics itself or at the hands of the guards that patrol the facility, which is located on an elusive island.

After winning, Gi-hun was released with his earnings and a whole lot of trauma. In Season 2, he resolved to take down the Front Man’s operation from within and re-inserted himself into the Games under an alias. As he competed for his second time, he attempted to use his prior experience to foment a rebellion among the participants. Just as in the first season, he makes multiple alliances and forges friendships with other participants along the way.

Unfortunately, one of those competitors is actually the Front Man, who also entered the games under an alias as Player 001. Gi-hun, unaware of this, accidentally befriends the Front Man. At the end of the season, the Front Man springs his trap: He kills Gi-hun’s best friend, Jung-bae, crushes his revolt and imprisons him. His true identity is revealed to viewers, but not to Gi-hun.

Season 3 will pick up at that point, with the Front Man back behind his mask, but Netflix has been close-lipped with plot details on how exactly Gi-hun will make it out of his current predicament.

In addition to this cast, there will also be a new doll to play counterpart to the infamous Young-hee in the Red Light, Green Light game.
