Montreal Canadiens at Buffalo Sabres — Game 7 Preview
The Buffalo Sabres host the Montreal Canadiens for Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Second Round at KeyBank Center, with a Conference Finals berth on the line and both teams coming off blowout swings that have made this one of the more volatile second-round series in recent memory. Buffalo took the opener at home 4-2, dropped Games 2 and 3 by 5-1 and 6-2 margins, took Game 4 in Montreal 3-2, fell 6-3 at home in Game 5, then leveled the series with an 8-3 statement win at Bell Centre to force tonight.
Tage Thompson has been the central scoring threat on the Buffalo side with 40 goals and 81 points across the regular season at a heavy 272 shots, while Rasmus Dahlin runs the back end with 55 assists from the blue line. The visiting side leans on Cole Caufield’s regular-season pace of 51 goals and Nick Suzuki, who put up 29 goals and 72 assists for 101 points as the team’s primary playmaker. A win sends the victor to the Conference Finals to face the Carolina Hurricanes, who are undefeated in the postseason.
