‘Dancing with the Stars’ Week 5 Preview
Heading into Week 5, 11 couples remain and the ballroom becomes a halftime show. Super Bowl Night is a first for the series, with every routine set to a song from a past Super Bowl halftime performance, and it lands ahead of ABC and ESPN’s broadcast of Super Bowl LXI in February 2027.
Joe Buck joins the panel as guest judge, which pushes scoring onto a 40-point scale for the night rather than the usual 30. Four returning NFL alumni appear, and the opening number runs a medley of “NUEVAYoL” by Bad Bunny, “Rude Boy” by Rihanna and “HUMBLE.” by Kendrick Lamar.
The standings are tight at the top and not at the bottom. Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson and Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas are tied on 87 points for the season, with Maura holding the only 9 any judge has given out. Guillermo Rodriguez and Witney Carson sit on 50, a full 20 points behind the next couple, and have now finished last on the judges’ board four weeks running.

What is ‘Dancing with the Stars’ About?
Dancing with the Stars pairs a celebrity with a professional ballroom dancer and gives them one week to build a routine for live television. Three judges score the dance, and the audience votes on their favorite. The two different scores are combined, and the couple with the lowest score goes home. By the finale, only the top pairings remain, with the winning couple taking home the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.
Season 35 brought sixteen new couples into the ballroom, tying Seasons 9 and 31 for the largest cast in the show’s history. Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough return as hosts and Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli return to the judges’ table.
