Colorado Rockies (24-38) at LA Angels (23-39) — Game Preview

The Colorado Rockies and LA Angels meet at Angel Stadium with both clubs sitting near the bottom of their respective divisions and looking for traction in a long summer. The pitching matchup is the headline tonight: Walbert Ureña (2-4, 2.44 ERA) takes the ball for the Angels with a 1.38 WHIP and 41 strikeouts across 44.1 innings, opposite Michael Lorenzen (2-7, 7.22 ERA), who has logged 43 strikeouts in 57.1 innings but carries a 1.90 WHIP into the start. Colorado’s offense leans on Troy Johnston, who is hitting .316 with a .374 on-base percentage and a .430 slugging mark from right field.

The Angels counter with Mike Trout, whose 14 home runs and 31 RBIs anchor an Angels lineup that has otherwise struggled to score in stretches. Jo Adell adds another power threat for Los Angeles with nine home runs and a team-leading 34 RBIs, giving Ureña some margin if the Rockies’ bats catch up to him. Colorado’s injury list is the longest in either dugout tonight, with Kris Bryant, Brenton Doyle and Mickey Moniak among the names sidelined.

Players to Watch: Colorado Rockies vs. LA Angels

Colorado Rockies

Troy Johnston — RF. Johnston is hitting .316 as one of Colorado’s top contact bats and owns the highest average among the Rockies’ regulars in tonight’s lineup. His .374 on-base percentage and .430 slugging mark give the Rockies a steady option in the order.

Hunter Goodman — C. Goodman has driven the Rockies’ power game from behind the plate with 15 home runs, the team-best total in tonight’s available lineup, alongside a .243 average and 27 RBIs. A catcher hitting for that kind of power gives Colorado a real threat in the middle innings, particularly if Ureña has to work deep into counts.

Michael Lorenzen — SP. Lorenzen takes the mound at 2-7 with a 7.22 ERA across 57.1 innings, numbers that put pressure on Colorado’s offense to provide an early cushion. His 43 strikeouts show the swing-and-miss is still there, but a 1.90 WHIP suggests the Angels will see runners on base early and often.

LA Angels

Mike Trout — CF. Trout enters with 14 home runs and 31 RBIs while hitting .243, giving the Angels one of their main power bats in center field. His ability to reach base and drive the ball remains central to the Los Angeles offense.

Jo Adell — RF. Adell leads the Angels with 34 RBIs and adds nine home runs from right field, giving Los Angeles another power source behind Trout. His .232 average reflects some swing-and-miss, but the RBI total has made him a key part of the lineup.

Walbert Ureña — SP. Ureña goes for the Angels at 2-4 with a 2.44 ERA, a strong mark among the listed starters in this matchup. He has struck out 41 hitters in 44.1 innings, while his 1.38 WHIP shows he has worked around some traffic.
