Bosnia-Herzegovina (0-1-0) vs. Switzerland (0-1-0) — Group B Match Preview

Bosnia-Herzegovina meet Switzerland at SoFi Stadium with both sides sitting on 0-1-0 in Group B and badly needing a result. Bosnia-Herzegovina arrive at their first World Cup since 2014, a return earned by stunning four-time champions Italy on penalties in the UEFA playoff to knock out the highest-ranked team that missed the tournament. Switzerland come in as the steadier hand of the two, a side that reached the Round of 16 in 2014, 2018 and 2022 under the kind of tournament consistency Bosnia-Herzegovina are still chasing. Up front, Breel Embolo carries the Swiss attack after scoring in the group opener, while winger Dan Ndoye gave the back line plenty to track with six shots in that same match.

On the other side, Jovo Lukic answered with a goal of his own for Bosnia-Herzegovina, and veteran Sead Kolasinac chipped in the assist from the left. Murat Yakin and Sergej Barbarez both know a loss here would leave almost no margin after each opened with a draw, which sets up a match where the first goal could shape the whole group.

Players to Watch: Bosnia-Herzegovina vs. Switzerland

Bosnia-Herzegovina

Jovo Lukic — Forward. Lukic opened his account with 1 goal across his lone appearance in Group B, giving Bosnia-Herzegovina an immediate focal point in attack. He shapes up as the side’s most direct route to goal as they look to claw back into the group.

Sead Kolasinac — Defender. The experienced full-back set up Bosnia-Herzegovina’s goal, registering 1 assist from his single Group B outing. His overlapping runs down the left give Barbarez a reliable outlet on the flank.

Benjamin Tahirovic — Midfielder. Tahirovic kept Bosnia-Herzegovina ticking through the middle and was among their shooting threats in the opener with a total of 1 shot. His range of passing will be central to how the side builds against a disciplined Swiss block.

Switzerland

Breel Embolo — Forward. Embolo struck in Switzerland’s group opener for 1 goal in a single appearance, the focal point of a front line that asks defenders to handle his strength and movement. As the No. 9, he is the one the Swiss lean on to turn pressure into goals.

Dan Ndoye — Forward. Ndoye was Switzerland’s busiest attacker in the opener, peppering the goal with 6 shots from the wing. That volume makes him the side’s main creator of chances out wide.

Manuel Akanji — Defender. Akanji anchored the Swiss build-up with 92 accurate passes in his Group B match, the kind of distribution that lets Switzerland control tempo from the back. His composure on the ball is as important to Yakin’s plan as anything he does defending the box.
