Young Midge (Margaret O'Brien) is an orphan with an unusual adoptive family: she has three fathers. She primarily lives with Jewish cantor David Feldman (Danny Thomas), but a Protestant minister and an Irish Catholic police officer also share custody. Chaos breaks out between the three fathers when David announces his plans to marry and take sole custody of Midge. With no end in sight to their bickering, Midge herself sets out to make things right with her dads.
