Players to Watch: Las Vegas Raiders vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Las Vegas Raiders

Kirk Cousins — QB. Cousins has opened the season directing the Raiders offense with efficiency and aggression, completing 21 of his 30 attempts for 160 yards and three touchdowns in the opener. He did throw two interceptions in that outing, a reminder that his downfield throws carry some risk against a divisional secondary like the Chargers.

Ashton Jeanty — RB. Jeanty, the Raiders’ rookie lead back, has already shouldered a heavy workload with 23 carries for 102 yards through one week. That kind of volume suggests a north-south runner capable of wearing down a defense over four quarters.

Kwity Paye — DE. Paye anchors the Raiders’ pass rush off the edge, already credited with two sacks this season. His early production sets up as one of the more disruptive individual threats against a Chargers offensive front trying to protect Herbert.

Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert — QB. Herbert enters Sunday still chasing his first win of the season, having completed 17 of 27 passes for 209 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the opener. His per-attempt average points to a downfield element the Chargers will lean on against a Raiders defense that will be tested early.

Omarion Hampton — RB. The rookie running back got an extended look last week, carrying 12 times for 43 yards and a touchdown. That early workload signals the Chargers intend to make him a featured piece of the offense as the season develops.

Troy Dye — LB. Dye has been part of the Chargers’ front-seven rotation early in the season, already credited with a half sack. His snaps at linebacker put him in the middle of a defense facing a productive rookie ground game in Jeanty and the Raiders.
