The Houston Astros bring a 24-32 mark into Globe Life Field to face the 25-29 Texas Rangers, with both AL West clubs trying to gain ground in the division. The matchup features Jacob deGrom for Texas against Mike Burrows for Houston, giving the Rangers the more experienced starter while the Astros look for Burrows to steady his run prevention.

deGrom enters at 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP and 64 strikeouts across 53.2 innings. Burrows comes in at 2-6 with a 5.75 ERA, 48 strikeouts and a 1.53 WHIP over 56.1 innings.

Players to Watch: Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers

Houston Astros

Yordan Alvarez — DH. The Astros’ designated hitter is slashing .303/.414/.631 with 18 home runs and 37 RBIs, anchoring the middle of the order as the team’s primary power threat. That 1.045 OPS pairs elite on-base ability with the league-leading slugging output that defines his profile.

Christian Walker — 1B. Walker is hitting .260 with 15 home runs and a team-leading 40 RBIs at first base, settling in as the right-handed run producer behind Alvarez. The RBI total tells the story of a hitter who has been steady with runners on, even as the batting average sits below his career norms.

Mike Burrows — SP. Tonight’s starter for Houston is sitting at 2-6 with a 5.75 ERA across 56.1 innings, with 48 strikeouts and a 1.53 WHIP. He needs to keep the deGrom matchup tight by limiting walks and pitching efficiently into the middle innings.

Texas Rangers

Josh Jung — 3B. The Rangers’ third baseman is hitting .303 with a .360 on-base percentage and a .459 slugging mark, the most consistent bat in a Texas lineup missing several regulars. His ability to handle right-handed pitching matters tonight against Burrows.

Jake Burger — 1B. Burger has produced 10 home runs and 36 RBIs from the first-base spot while hitting .240, a power-first profile that complements Jung in the heart of the order. His home-run production gives Texas another bat Houston will need to manage against a starter trying to settle in.

Jacob deGrom — SP. The Rangers’ right-hander brings a 3-4 record and a 3.86 ERA into tonight’s outing, with 64 strikeouts and a 1.02 WHIP across 53.2 innings. The walk-rate control implied by that WHIP is exactly the kind of profile that gives Texas an exciting matchup against a Houston lineup playing without Altuve and Correa.
