Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Chargers — Game Preview
Arizona and Los Angeles open the 2026 season at SoFi Stadium, with both clubs carrying strong 2025 numbers into the opener. The Chargers averaged 121.6 rushing yards per game last season, well ahead of the Cardinals’ 93.1, a real gap in ground production between the two units.
Jacoby Brissett threw for 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns against 8 interceptions in 2025, and he’ll look to keep feeding Trey McBride, who piled up 1,239 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on 126 catches. Justin Herbert matched him closely, throwing for 3,727 yards and 26 touchdowns for the Chargers while spreading targets to Ladd McConkey, who averaged 12.0 yards per reception on his way to 789 yards and six scores.
Up front, Josh Sweat and Tuli Tuipulotu give each defense a proven edge rusher, with Sweat totaling 12.0 sacks and 13 tackles for loss a year ago and Tuipulotu piling up 13.0 sacks and 20 tackles for loss. Arizona converted just 41.5% of its third downs in 2025 compared to the Chargers’ 45.8%, a gap worth watching as both offenses try to stay on schedule in Week 1.

Players to Watch: Arizona Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Arizona Cardinals
Jacoby Brissett — QB. Brissett threw for 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns against just 8 interceptions in 2025, numbers that point to a quarterback who protects the football while still pushing it downfield. He completed 64.9% of his passes to go with a 94.1 passer rating, a level of efficiency the Cardinals will lean on heavily in the opener.
Trey McBride — TE. McBride was one of the league’s most productive tight ends a year ago, catching 126 passes for 1,239 yards and 11 touchdowns. His 9.8 yards per reception show a player who does damage after the catch as much as he does simply getting open, and he figures to be Brissett’s top target again.
Josh Sweat — LB. Sweat recorded 12.0 sacks and 13 tackles for loss in 2025, anchoring Arizona’s pass rush off the edge. His 30 total tackles on top of that production make him the Cardinals’ clearest defensive difference-maker heading into the opener.
Los Angeles Chargers
Justin Herbert — QB. Herbert passed for 3,727 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2025, the highest yardage total of anyone in this matchup. He completed 66.4% of his throws for a 94.1 rating, and the Chargers will need that same accuracy to control the opener at SoFi Stadium.
Ladd McConkey — WR. McConkey caught 66 passes for 789 yards and six touchdowns in 2025, averaging 12.0 yards every time he touched the ball. That efficiency made him a reliable chain-mover for Los Angeles and a name to watch again in Herbert’s passing attack.
Tuli Tuipulotu — LB. Tuipulotu led the Chargers’ front seven with 13.0 sacks and 20 tackles for loss in 2025, production that put him among the league’s more disruptive pass rushers. He also chipped in 49 total tackles, giving Los Angeles a defender capable of affecting the game from multiple angles.
