‘Adults’ Cast & Character Guide: Meet the Season 2 Stars

For the Gen Zer looking for this generation’s Friends or Girls, you just might find it in Adults. The hilariously absurd yet somehow grounded comedy follows a group of codependent housemates in their 20s trying to make it in the real world while doing everything they can to avoid the responsibilities that come with it. The series flew under the radar when its first season debuted on FXX and Hulu in May 2025, but luckily for fans, it’s back for a second season beginning August 27, 2026.

The ensemble comedy’s cast is made up of relatively new faces and rising comedy performers — and if their performances in Adults are any indication of their future success, they’re just getting started.

Here’s a full guide to the cast and characters of Adults to get you up to speed ahead of the new season.

‘Adults’ Cast & Characters

From confronting creepy men on the subway (the opening scene of Season 1 certainly sets the tone for the series) and befriending criminals on the run to navigating the more mundane challenges of adulthood like the healthcare system or asking for a raise, each character in Adults brings their own kind of hilarious dysfunction to the friend group.

Here are the characters at the center of the comedy and the actors who play them.

Malik Elassal as Samir

Samir from Adults via FX

Known for: Joe Pickett, Resident Alien and The New Wave of Standup. Adults marks his first leading television role.

Malik Elassal plays Samir, one of the core members of the series’ friend group. He and his friends live rent-free — literally — in his childhood home in Queens, making him the de facto “man of the house” as they attempt to figure out this whole “adulting” thing.

Samir is well-meaning, kind and always willing to help a friend, but his tendency to overthink turns small problems into bigger ones until, inevitably, they spiral out of control. Whether he’s dealing with the broken furnace in the basement or his chronic unemployment, he’s more often in over his head than he might like to admit.

Lucy Freyer as Billie

Billie in Adults via FX

Known for: Adults is her first leading on-screen role.

Lucy Freyer plays Billie, Samir’s childhood best friend turned housemate. At the start of the series, she’s one of the only members of the friend group who has her life even partly put together: she has a job, good friends and, as a self-described try-hard, is willing to work hard to accomplish her goals — and make sure people like her. But after getting fired early in the first season, Billie finds herself uncertain about who she is and what comes next.

Billie is the kind of person who still brings up her high school accomplishments and won’t let you forget them. Her attachment to those glory days eventually leads her to spark a relationship with her former high school teacher.

Jack Innanen as Paul Baker

Paul Baker in Adults via FX

Known for: Big Mistakes, The Office Movers and his comedy videos on TikTok. Adults was his first major leading television role.

Jack Innanen, who came on the scene via his viral TikTok videos, plays Paul Baker, a fan-favorite character who quickly becomes one of the most beloved members of the friend group — even though he initially starts out on its periphery. Paul goes from hooking up with housemate Issa to dating her, and as he begins hanging around more, the rest of the crew discovers just how funny, kind and wonderfully weird he really is.

Known exclusively by his full name, Paul Baker, the Canadian is charming, easygoing and brings a welcome sense of calm to the group’s chaotic social dynamics. Despite not knowing him for long, the friends quickly come to see him as someone they can turn to when they need support, as he’s always down for some kind of adventure.

Amita Rao as Issa

Issa Damani in Adults via FX

Known for: Deli Boys and her work with Chicago’s improv comedy scene. Adults marks her first leading television role.

Amita Rao plays Issa, possibly the least put-together — but the happiest about it –member of the group. Issa met Samir and Anton in college, and the trio quickly became close friends. She’s also the person who brings Paul Baker into the fold.

Issa is loud, energetic and passionate, but her endless interests and short attention span make it difficult for her to commit to any one job, passion project or partner. She feels everything deeply, often putting on a mask to meet the moment even when she feels unheard or misunderstood by her friends. Despite her own lack of stability, she’s someone they can always rely on to show up for them – but she may not be the best person to put as your medical proxy.

Owen Thiele as Anton

Anton Evans in Adults via FX

Known for: Overcompensating, Theater Camp, Dollface, Hacks and Zoey 102

Owen Thiele plays Anton, who rounds out the core friend group. He met Samir and Issa in college, and once Billie was introduced, the four quickly became close. After Billie loses her job, Anton becomes the only member of the group with a real one, even though no one technically knows what he does (not even him), and it’s certainly too late to ask.

Anton is hilarious, confident and charismatic, and he knows it. He has no boundaries, which works surprisingly well in the house he lives in. That said, his ability to get strangers to open up and immediately want to be his friend gets him into trouble more often than not. Anton is always down for whatever, but he’s also reliable when the moment calls for it.

Recurring Cast & Characters

Here are some of the recurring characters across Adults seasons 1 and 2.

Charlie Cox as Andrew “Mr. Teacher”

Known for: Daredevil, Daredevil: Born Again, Stardust, Boardwalk Empire and Kin

Charlie Cox plays Andrew, better known as “Mr. Teacher,” Billie and Samir’s former high school teacher. He comes back into their lives when Billie visits her old school hoping to relive some of her glory days and feel better about herself. The current students may not be impressed by Billie, but Andrew is, and the two soon find themselves in a short-lived situationship.

Charlie Cox is not expected to return for Season 2.

Rachel Marsh as Carly

Known for: Unstable, The Morning Show, Fallout, iCarly and NCIS: Hawaiʻi

Rachel Marsh plays Carly, Samir’s ex-girlfriend, who comes back into his life when he anxiously calls his former partners to ask whether he ever did anything to make them uncomfortable. The conversation that unfolds is predictably awkward, but it ultimately leads the pair to rekindle their relationship.

Rachel Marsh is expected to return to the series for Season 2.
