Wake Forest (1-0) at Purdue (1-0) — Game Preview
Wake Forest brings a 1-0 record into Ross-Ade Stadium on September 12, 2026, looking to carry its season-opening form on the road against a Purdue team that also opened 1-0. Purdue hosts the nonconference matchup as it works to build early momentum inside Big Ten play, while the Demon Deacons look to prove their own opening result carries over away from home.
Wake Forest quarterback Gio Lopez threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns on 21-of-32 passing in the opener, giving the Demon Deacons a downfield weapon Purdue’s defense has to account for. Boilermakers quarterback Ryan Browne answered with a 23-of-29, 317-yard, three-touchdown showing of his own, setting up a quarterback matchup that should decide plenty.
Running back Ty Clark III gives Wake Forest a home-run threat after piling up 105 yards on just seven carries, while Purdue’s Fame Ijeboi found the end zone on his way to 87 yards on 11 carries. Both defenses already have a sack to their name, with Wake Forest’s Braylon Johnson and Purdue’s Ian Jeffries each getting home once in the opening week.

Players to Watch: Wake Forest vs. Purdue
Wake Forest
Gio Lopez — QB. Lopez completed 21 of 32 passes for 350 yards and three touchdowns in the season opener, spreading throws across the field with real efficiency. He gives Wake Forest a downfield weapon that immediately tests Purdue’s secondary.
Ty Clark III — RB. Clark averaged 15 yards a carry in his first outing, turning seven attempts into 105 rushing yards. A workload that productive on so few touches suggests Wake Forest found a home-run threat in the backfield early.
Braylon Johnson — DB. Johnson recorded a sack in the opener, evidence that Wake Forest’s secondary can get after the quarterback as well as cover. That two-way ability matters against a Purdue offense that already looks capable of moving the ball through the air.
Purdue
Ryan Browne — QB. Browne answered with 23 completions on 29 attempts for 317 yards and three touchdowns, missing on just six throws in his debut. The efficiency puts him right in line with Lopez heading into this one, and neither offense figures to slow down easily.
Fame Ijeboi — RB. Ijeboi carried the ball 11 times for 87 yards and a touchdown, finding the end zone in Purdue’s opening win. His performance gives the Boilermakers a ground option to lean on if the passing game needs support.
Ian Jeffries — DL. Jeffries logged a sack of his own in Purdue’s opener, matching Johnson’s total on the other side. Both defensive fronts already have proof they can generate pressure, which should factor into how each quarterback operates.
