Nico Iamaleava — QB. Through three games he has gone 47 of 75 for 611 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. With the run game producing the way it has, his job on the road is to pick his spots and avoid giving Maryland extra possessions.
Wayne Knight — RB. Efficiency defines his start, as Knight has piled up 345 yards and 8 touchdowns on just 39 carries. Maryland has to account for him on every early down.
Sammy Omosigho — LB. A linebacker with 3 sacks already, Omosigho gives the Bruins a pass rusher who can get home against a quarterback who throws often. Pressure from him is UCLA’s clearest route to disrupting the Maryland passing game.
Maryland Terrapins
Malik Washington — QB. The Terrapins’ offense runs through his arm, with Washington completing 83 of 116 attempts for 892 yards and 6 touchdowns. He has yet to throw an interception, and that ball security gives Maryland room to stay aggressive.
Iverson Howard — RB. Howard has handled 37 carries for 143 yards and 4 touchdowns, giving the Terrapins a finisher when drives stall short of the end zone. Keeping him involved early would take some weight off Washington.
DD Holmes — LB. Against a UCLA offense built on Knight’s legs, Holmes and his 2.5 sacks matter a lot. His ability to get into the backfield could force UCLA into more passing downs than it wants.
